I know it's a reach, but Chance me please?

Gender: Female
State: NY

SAT I: 1940 (superscore)
SAT II: Biology 680; History 640
GPA: Unweighted 4.3 out of 4.0 (Almost all A’s with only 3 B’s in four years). It is above 4.0 because of all the AP classes I have taken, it cannot go below 4.0 because of the way my school calculates it.

Rank: Top 10%
APs: Taken FULL advantage of all the APs and Honors in my school; All Honors classes freshman and sophomore year; All classes are APs senior and junior year (except math classes).
Senior Year Course Load: Bio AP, English AP, Spanish AP, European Studies AP, Psychology AP, Pre Calc

Extracurriculars: Fencing for 7 years (Varsity for four years, Captain of team for 2 years); Member of National Honors Society for 2 years, Member of World Language National Honors Society [French], French Club, Tutor for underclassmen.

Work experience: Held a job for three years at a restaurant
Volunteer work: Volunteered at multiple hospitals (2 individual hospitals) for all 4 years
Summer Activities: Attended Fencing Program at Brown University, Attended summer courses at NYU (again, held job all summer)

Honors: Leadership Award in 2008, Honor Roll for Freshman-Junior year
Teacher Recommendation: Excellent recs from 2 teachers and a coach!
Counselor Rec: excellent, I know her very well.

Also important to note: A rep. in the admissions office told me that the coach put a note on my application that she is interested. They DO NOT recruit for fencing, but will this help at all??

I know it’s too late to change anything as it is almost time for decisions, but I’m just wondering if it’s an extreme reach or just a slight reach?? Thank you for any input :)

I’d say you have a good chance.

haha thank you! I have always thought of it as a high reach but i’m really hoping that the coach’s positive comment and my GPA will help a bit since my SAT is so slow!

I don’t think your SAT is that low. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought they had a 1900 SAT average?

Yeah I guess so, however it feels like people with all 2000+ apply which makes my 1940 look like nothing! That’s why i figured it was a reach…I’m sure they get more than enough extremely qualified applicants. I’ve heard that a lot of Ivy league applicants use BC as a back up?

The average for EA students was 2121 and the average ACT was 32 (according to some email they sent) BUT I’m pretty sure EA is a lot more selective than RD. From what I heard (when I visited), essays and letters of rec count a lot, so I think that, despite your SAT score, your chances are fairly good. Also, your grades and ECs are very good, in my opinion.

I shouldn’t really be ‘chancing’ anyone, though, since I’m not really qualified (as a high school student) :P

Dear jenx1234 : The midpoint from two years back was 2030 on the SAT and a 30/31 on the ACT. The SAT has inched up twenty points in the last two years and the ACT has moved into the solid 31 range for the midpoint acceptance.
