I know it's pointless, but... Chances?

I’m hoping that there are some of you out there that have attended the colleges I’m about to list that I’m interested in, and hopefully tell me what to improve on, not just “you’re in” or “no chance,” etc. Thanks!

High School: Neuqua Valley (4000+ kids), one of most expensively built, “best” HS in nation (like, 900th or something)

I’m an Asian junior chick.
Class Rank: top 9%, out of about 1700 kids in my class.
GPA: W 4.18. Not sure what’s my UW, but I’ve had a pretty consistent grade trend.
ACT: English 31, Math 31, Science 26 (blah.), 31 Reading. Will retake in April.
I haven’t decided whether to take the SAT or not.

AP classes: Euro history (5), chemistry, psychology, English. Will take Calc BC, Bio, government, French, and statistics as a senior. Hopefully.

Extracurricular: orchestra for 2 yrs.
2nd degree black belt, been training for at least 8 years.
President & co-founder of Amnesty International chapter at my school
French club (3 yrs), will be joining French Honors Society.
Youth and Government (2+ yrs)

Volunteering: 300+ hours instructing 4-5 yr old children in tae kwon do.
delivering flowers to patients at the hospital, 41 hours.

Colleges I’m interested in: Some of these are major streches.

Oh, an I want to major in biology (pre-med, if they have something specified for prospective med kids) and perhaps French if I have room. I heard NU isn’t great for pre-med?

U of Wisconsin - Madison
U of Michigan - Ann Arbor
NYU
Grinnell
Knox
Washington U at St. Louis
Northwestern U
UIUC
College of William and Mary

26 Science for ACt and going for bio/pre-med mite hurt.

yeah, i get that. i just need to improve on how i approach that section. hopefully it will get better the next time i take it.

hey nequa valley (in illinois? - I go to Fremd!)

Northwestern U has a pretty comprehensive bio-med program that’s comparable to many other top institutions. In fact NU pre-med is pretty good.
(source: my best friend pre-med @ NU –> med @ harvard)

Northwestern U - bio/pre-med is going to be a reach for you.

as far as everything else, I don’t think I can chance you… solely because I don’t want to give you wrong expectations

yeah, illinois! i think i know someone who goes to Fremd.

northwestern isn’t my top choice so far, because i KNOW it’s such a huge reach.

i don’t think i qualify for a lot of the schools i listed, except for maybe UIUC, UWis, and Knox.

hate to be a stalker but I saw that you “delivering flowers to patients at the hospital, 41 hours.” Lutheran general per chance? (I used to work in the flowershop now I’m a volunteer pharmaceutical tech)

… anyways I know that UIUC and UWis are very NUMBER ORIENTATED.

My dad’s best friend is on the UIUC admission staff and he said that if your test scores and GPA check out and your major is not competitive (idk if bio is competitive) they don’t even look at your essays. Your essays are usually for scholarship considerations.

Good luck!

nah, i don’t think that’s around the naperville area. i volunteered at Edwards in dt naperville?

yeah, but UIUC is my absolute safety. i don’t much like the campus nor the school but a LOT of kids from my school go there. and UWis is my top choice as of right now.

Isn’t UIUC’s admission getting really tight recently? or so i’ve heard. maybe it applies only to engineering.

and thanks!
