Over the past summer we had several lemonade/smoothies stands and we raised over 400 dollars ( doing this pretty much every weekend) and we donated the money to the leukemia and lymphoma society. I chose this organization because it is an organization that I have put a lot of hours into volunteering there, hosting drives, and it ties into my essay/ problems my dad faced. Is this a legit thing I could write down or are they going to think I’m a dumba*s?

“One summer” = approx. 10 weeks x 2 weekend days = 20 selling days total
“Several” stands = 3 x 20 selling days = 60 total booth days
$400 divided by 60 total booth days = $6.66 income per booth per day

I think they may be more impressed with your community service than you as an entrepreneur…

Write it down, maybe just omit the amount of money you actually made. There are kids who apply there who have fund raised thousands of dollars.

You are to be commended on your fundraising and volunteering efforts.

However, it’s probably just as important that you don’t start any of the sentences in your essays with phrases like, “Me and my sister did something.”

If you’re not sure why not, go visit your English teacher. ;)

Certainly you can use this on your college app. Focus more on the fact that you have a passion to help these particular organizations because these diseases have directly impacted your life and now you want to help make a difference in others. Depending on where you live in the USA/World would depend on whether or not I would mention the actual dollar amounts. Here in NY kids make $200-$300 in a day for a lemonade stand. I remember right after 9/11 my kids did a lemonade stand and in one day raised $1200. The community was fairly affluent so people were throwing $100’s on the table. Then there were a few that gave us 50 cents. But depending on where you live that may or may not be possible. Hence $400 may very well be a tremendous amount of money. Again, you can explain this in your application.

Good luck!
