I know they say its hard but...(Medill)

Ok, so. I know they say its extremely hard to switch over to Medill once youve been accepted to another college but im gonna try. Im scared about just majoring in intl affairs and poli sci here because basically everyone is saying its not that amazing, but of course journalism at northwestern is…and they have this global journalism thing which i would be interested in. Im not a stranger to journalism, in fact im previous editor-in-chief of a national teen magazine called GUMBO www.mygumbo.com and im an editor with my school paper and have work with the local papers. I also heard that i could major in poli sci in weinberg as well…and that poli sci courses overlap with intl affairs courses. and then for my graduate i can go somewhere and focus on my international relations in a more specific way. Eugh lol I dont know what to do with my life lol

Don’t major in journalism just because you think job prospects might be better. Weigh this consideration with what you truly enjoy doing and find a happy medium between the two.

“I dont know what to do with my life”

That’s why you’re going to college. :)

Not only is journalism EXTREMELY hard to transfer into, but it’s also VERY hard once you’re in the program. So if you’re not really passionate about it, it probably won’t work out.

But anyway, stop worrying about this now. Talk to your advisor about it when you get here. (You might want to meet with a journalism advisor as well)

^ Yep! You should definitely do what you WANT to do and not what you feel might be more helpful or something. It’s kinda harsh to judge the poli sci program when you haven’t even taken any classes in it yet. And Medill I could see being very frustrating for someone whose passion was not journalism.

well I wasnt critizing it, I was just saying what I have heard most people say about the poli sci program…dont freak out, seriously  Yeah, I think I am just going to do what I originally intended and taljk to my advisors in the fall and actually see how i like it for myself.

maybe not much of a selling point, but there are some pretty awesome free spirits in medill!

wink wink…

but do what you want and power to you.

by the way, we ARE having a reunion in evanston next year, right?

can you still major in journalism, even if you’re not in medill?
