I know this is stupid/insecure, but...

I’m applying to intensly competitive schools, which include MIT, Princeton and Stanford (the science/math programs).

Grades: School doesn’t rank, but I know that I am in top 5%

My scores are as such:

Big Kahuna:

Math: 780 Verbal: 740 Writing is…700

Subjects:

Math 2C: 800

Physics: 800

I know these are decent scores. However, the 700 writing score brings my SATreasoning score to 2220.

The thing is I am not an athlete, so I am going to compete in terms of academic accomplishments. (GPA and scores)

With a 5% ranking, 2220, and two 800’s on subject tests, am I competitive with the non athletes/hooks?

I know, obv, the subject test scores are good. I gather, however, that they are kind of negligble, even if you get an 800, and that the bulk of scores evaluation comes down to your reasoning test scores.

So, is 2220 strong enough to compete with the non-athletes, non-hook people at places like MIT, Stanford and Princeton?

Or is it good enough, and that my success/failure comes down more so to my course selection, recs, and EC’s, like it does for all applicants?

I only ask, because I am thinking of retaking the reasoning test in January. Or should I calm the hell down?

I know this may seem like a stupid question, but I, from looking at this site, am under the impression that anything below 2300 if you’re not an athlete or hooked applicant is “bad.” (for MSP)

If one wants to see scores in context, some extra information on EC’s include:

President of nationally recognized engeering team (We’ve recieved multithousand dollar grant money, and placed nationally in second/1st place in multiple national engineering competitions)

I do stand-up comedy as a hobby (sometimes paid, but I usually do it for free since I love it)

Also captain of Math Team, and an editor for the school paper Junior Year.

i dun know. i’m pretty sure cc isn’t really an accurate representation of real college applicants. if you look at the SAT statistics for any of those schools you’ll see your inside their middle 50%. i think people on here put too much weight on SAT scores. plus those ECs are fabulous. things like that totally make up for great, but not perfect, SAT scores. colleges are looking for the people like you anyway, the ones that have done something exceptional. they get enough perfect SAT scores.
