I know you guys never get bored of answering questions to hopefuls like me.

hello, a new member (hooray!)

I’ll be applying to college this fall and thus begin the hellish process of agony and ecstasy in the admisssions process.

went on a $1000 plane ticket college visit to cornell U a couple weeks ago, liked it pretty well. my top reach reach reach school right now. other lists of school in no particular order

upenn
cal tech
carnegie mellon
UCLA
macalester
rutgers new brunswick campus
washington state univ

SAT: 700cr, 720 math, 600 wr. will take it again and reaching for a better score, say 2300.
SATii: planning on taking bio M and math IIC. think i’ll do well on those, like 750+.

GPA 4.714, W, don’t know UW…i think 3.8? took a lot of AP/IB course, but not a IB dip candidate. almost all A’s, except for freshman french and english.

EC
Japanese exchange 9-10
Student teacher at elementary (volunteering) 9-10
Concert band 9-12
Jazz band 9-10
Marching band 11-12 (captain senior year)
Cross country 11
Tennis 11-12
National honor society 11-12
Honor rolls (A students) 9-12

bit of a confusing EC…would have been more consistent if my parents didnt decide to randomly move to US. will explain in the app.

if you look at my EC’s carefully, I think you’ll notice my personality change…academic oriented to all around person. think that will help?

asian girl-- minority interested in science will help, i’ve heard. true?
oh, mostly interested in biology, particularly biometrics, genetics and neuroscience. +_+ coolest things EVER! hope to be a research assistant in the senior year.

sorry for the shortcut sentences. in a crabby mood after seeing a lot of “chances?” post and saddened by the fact that many people fear of not getting in. many people aka ppl with near perfect SAT GPA and EC’s. so decided to put one up myself and see what you say. ;] have a good one.

imkonadian88:

Assuming you are a California resident,
UCLA: Match

i’m not. living in colorado right now, and am willing to apply for californian residency to lower the tuition cost. but thanks. that’s a good reassurance :]

imkonadian88:

UCLA: Slight Reach (out of state)

3.8 UW is there, but won’t help you. are you REALLY that confident that your SAT’s would improve by nearly 300 points? that’s a LOT.

your ECs are pretty weak. nothing spectacular really. leadership or awards.

assuming you’ll ED Cornell, it’s still a big reach.

An Asian interested in science? Never heard of it.

Cornell is a big reach, even ED, as McCloud said. Where are you from? If Cali, I think you’re probably in at UCLA.

“asian girl-- minority interested in science will help, i’ve heard. true?”

True for underrepresented minorities – people who are African American, Hispanic or Native American. Asians are not URMs, and if you check the boards, you’ll see that most Asians plan to major in the sciences. Now, an Asian planning on majoring in art or the humanities would be unusual.

what about the other college lists? Carnegie, Rutgers, Washington State, Macalester?

imkon,
I’m afraid you can’t apply for residency in California while a student. The only way to get in-state tuition would be to move there, work for a year and establish residency and then apply for college.

http://www.registrar.ucsb.edu/residenc.htm</a>
being there physically present for a year isn’t bad, and etc.I guess this site makes it clear…I have to not have been on my parents income tax as a dependent the two years preceding my request for residency.
