Project Nicaragua intends to raise funds and awareness about poverty in Nicaragua; we will use funds to help construct houses through another organization, Student’s for 60,000, and their affiliates. With our own finances (not from club donations), we plan to travel to Nicaragua in the spring and assist personally with the work effort.

o Model United Nations [12] – I was suggested by some friends into joining Model UN because they apparently believed that my diction and arguing ability would be an asset to the club. I don’t get to see any action until 2009, when our first meet will occur.

Personally, I think I owned it EXCEPT for my GPA. Do you think it would hinder me from acceptance?

the gpa KILLED you.

I’d still say you’re in thanks to the scores and ec’s.

seeing as how ur instate, id say ur in.

I think you are virtually assured of admission. Since you chose to specify your ethnicity, I will point out that UGA has been criticized, for years, for having such a small percentage of African Americans in its student body, particularly in light of the demographics of Georgia and Atlanta (relatively large percentage of African American residents). UGA has not been shy about making clear its intentions to grow the minority segments of its student body. This should not be taken as suggesting that you need any “affirmative action” for admission – your SAT score and credentials are very impressive and, in my view, easily offset the fact that your GPA is a few tenths of a point below the UGA average. But your ethnicity, at least with regard to UGA, will serve as a positive “hook” which, coupled with a 1470 on CR/Math and 14 AP/IB tests, essentially ensures your offer of admission.

You don’t indicate if your GPA is weighted or not, but UGA does the following for unweighted grades in AP or IB classes: “Additionally, if a weight is not already added to an individual grade, we raise by the equivalent of one half-letter grade (0.5) each grade earned in an AP or IB course.” So, your GPA may actually be higher when UGA recalculates it.
