<p>Martha Stewart had a segment on tree trimming yesterday. It’s almost an allegory on wishful parenting.</p>

<p>Heading in the wrong direction? I’ll snip you back to this point and give you a chance to straighten out. If you continue to cause trouble, I’ll cut you off completely. </p>

<p>And just like tree trimming, it’s not the act itself that is unpleasant, it’s dealing with all the stuff that gets cut off and left behind that is a chore.</p>
