First of all, it was completely my fault cuz I didn’t apply for financial aid in the first place and asked for it after I was admitted.
After my acceptance, I emailed the FA office and asked them if i can still apply for fa. They said yes and I did.
However, today I was informed that they are not able to offer me any financial aid…
Is there a way to appeal?
Btw, our annual income is <10k.
Thanks in advance.
What was your rationale in not applying for FA in the first place?
@JustOneDad Honestly, I was not expecting an acceptance with my stats… I know this is an utterly stupid rationale for not applying for FA
Are you an American or green card holder? If so, then you would have gotten at least a Pell Grant and a student loan.
@mom2collegekids I am an American citizen and I did get a student loan of $5500…
But the problem is, my parents are not american and they live in Japan.
^^That is really not a problem. If you are a US citizen, you would be entitled to a Pell grant if your family makes only $10k (US equivalent). You would also be eligible for a loan of up to $9500 since your parents can’t take a Plus loan. Call the school and see what the problems are. Did you submit the right forms? Are they complete?
You may not get any money directly from the school if it is given out based on the date of the application (they ran out of funds). Call and ask.
@twoinanddone thanks for the advice! Yup i’m going to call the office directly.
??
Is this WashU? If so, I doubt that they ran out of funds. They may have a strict rule that you must apply by a certain date to get institutional aid.
Hoping you DID apply for financial aid at schools where you figured you would be accepted…and that you have an affordable option in your acceptances.
This school is likely not going to work out.
The schools run out of money, so if you appeal, there just might not be any money left for the year.
Here’s the link about how to apply for Fafsa when the parent isn’t a US citezen:

I wasn’t aware that schools were able to run out of Pell Grant funding. My understanding is that anyone who is entitled to it under the law would receive it in their award, unless the school opts out of federal financial aid. It won’t be enough to make this school affordable though so honestly if institutional aid isn’t forthcoming it might be a good idea to move on.
Schools do not run out of Pell.
Schools do not run out of Pell money, but do run out of SEOG, Perkins, and their own loans and grants.
Cross your fingers that many who were offered aid declined the offer of admission. Maybe, just maybe, it might free up a few funds. Don’t count on it, but maybe.
This thread does not make sense at all. If you think the school admission is not likely at all, you skip the school application, not the financial aid application.
