I must really love my dogs because...

hyperJulie - Soon you will be just like me - spending more on your cat’s haircut than your own  But I did pick up clippers for $32, less than the cost of one hair cut, and have managed to make them work pretty well on one cat, and so-so on the other. It’s a thought.

But I agree - I have had to put away some pants that all the cat hair sticks to and invest in many, many lint rollers.

Between my cat and my yellow lab (how the heck is she not bald?!), my house is just one big hairball. It’s a losing battle that I’m constantly trying to win.

Takinallin, how sweet of your little doxie mix. All these stories are wonderful. What would we do without our dogs (or cats).

i walk my dog four times a day–everyday. hot, cold, rain snow. even though i sometimes complain about it, i’m not sure who really gets the most benefits!

busdriver11, I’m curious what restaurant in your neck of the woods permits you to bring doggies inside.

We take our elderly dog at least once a week, sometimes more in hot weather, 20 mn away for an ice cream cone. She has to be lifted into the car, although she can still jump out. Sometimes we don’t even get any ice cream ourselves.

I’m thinking of getting one of those robotic Mint vacuums to handle the dog fur on my hardwood floors. I find myself wiping the stairs twice a day with my bare hands.

Oh how can I count the ways !
Probably the most trouble I have gone to for my dogs is how we handled our vacation to Scotland about 6 months ago.
We live in NJ and the logical thing would have been to leave them at a kennel nearby , but instead, we drove 8 hours to Mass and left them with our one corgi’s breedr who also boards and grooms.
Instead of flying out of PHL, JFK or Newark, we arranged our flights so that the dogs could stay with her. This way I could relax, knowing that not only were they being cared for, but LOVED !
And they feel loved there too, I can tell. Last week, we took a trip up to Mass and took the corgis with us. Dropped them off for a grooming and it was clear that they feel at home and are almost as happy to see her as they are to see us
And my daughter who lives in Boston took a bus down to see them, my mother and us in that order

Those both show complete and utter love. And I have been guilted into taking them for another walk tonight. But no ice cream!

There is a coffee place a couple of miles away that is especially for dogs. It kind of smells, though, and the coffee isn’t that great.

But actually, my dogs weren’t specific as far as wanting me to go off my diet and take them for breakfast. They just wanted to go anywhere. I was just using them as the excuse. Kind of like the dogs wanting me to get that flat screen tv, or second glass of wine, or…so many things they want me to do. Actually, what they really want is a walk, some of my food, and a back scratch!

ah–bus–they like you having the 2nd glass of wine! On their behalf of course.
Our D’s dog is with us (once again) and I take her with me in the car just so that in the event that the rain stops we can dash out onto a street for a walk. I figure she is happier in it than in the house alone.

I must really love my dogs because:

On the first warm day this year, I put on two layers of latex gloves and took two layers of plastic bags and walked around the yard for an hour to pick up the winter’s dog poop.

because yesterday, I put the dogs out in our new little back yard (emphasis on little), which backs up to a golf course, and when I opened the door later to let them in, my golden doodle was not in the yard! The gate to the golf course was closed, and the iron spindles are spaced too closely for him to get out. The side gate was locked. I literally began to shake, thinking someone had opened the gate on the golf course side and stolen him. I raced upstairs to my balcony and looked far and wide to see if he was running around on the golf course or if someone was walking away with him. Nothing.

15 minutes later I was literally on the verge of tears when I found him in the street on the front side of the house. The side gate apparently has a pattern of iron swirls that has an opening just big enough for him to slide through, and after living here for 2 weeks, he has just discovered this.

My husband doubled over with laughter at my thought that someone had stolen him. He has a congenital facial deformity and is one weird looking little dude.

but I guess I love him…:o

lje - I am a corgi mom too  Love, love, love the breed!
veryhappy - I agree; the spring cleanup is the truest sign of love! Thanks to our weather, though, I will probably have 2 more weeks until I see the full winter “productivity!”

I guess I love my cat and dog because when it is time to vacuum, I put them in the kitchen (dog) and laundry room (cat). They seem to dislike my new vacuum more than the last. And I separate them because the cat is fiercely anti-dog. Even after 7 years together.

I’m not crazy about the cat hair in my food

“Our D’s dog is with us (once again) and I take her with me in the car just so that in the event that the rain stops we can dash out onto a street for a walk. I figure she is happier in it than in the house alone.”

Our dogs always want to go with us also, no matter where we go. I will take them on short trips, often they get to go to our local Starbucks.

Somebody ranted at me in our papers “Rant and Rave” section. Described my car, my dogs, and the local Starbucks we frequent…ranted for endangering my dogs and others. And they just lie there in the car so peacefully.

I think my cat seriously wants to eat me. I see the way he looks at my arm sometimes, and then tries to take a bite.

I have wondered that, too. Does my cat look at me like I’m prey? So far, it looks like he’s going to let me live. He’s sitting here in my lap. He says he could take me down any time.

I suppose you two could test your theory by rubbing something tasty on your arm, and watching to see if he just licks it off…or takes a bite.
