I seriously love my 12yo goldendoodle and can’t stand to have her on the floor when I’m on the couch. So the couch that I spent 18months picking out, I paid embarrassingly too much for, agonized over juuuusssst the right shade of red, the accent pillows and their fringe, is now covered by a periwinkle blue polartec blanket (there is zero blue anywhere in my house so this matches nothing) so she can be up here with me. My dog rocks. She loves me when the rest of the world is falling apart, she knows when I’m sick and sleeps on the bed with me snuggling her bum next to mine. She was supposed to be a family dog but everyone knows the score…she loves me most. :o

@busdriver Nah, he loves me! My human children are jealous. I think there is a lion inside every housecat.

yea, a lion that likes to chase down a shoe lace, but cringes in the corner in the presence of anything foreign to him.

honestly… he’d purr, look at my arm in a way that makes me uncomfortable, and then lunges at it with full force. I don’t think he was holding anything back. It was claws out and everything…

…I felt really guilty about going straight from work to an activity yesterday. I did not see my dog from 6:50 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. She had other family to walk and feed her, but I still feel terrible!

@spectastic Your cat is honing his survival skills. When kittens do it, it’s adorable because they’re too small to do much damage. Pay attention to his body language to see when he’s tired of being petted. I have used a squirt gun to spritz water on the face to change behavior, also. Even my high strung ones eventually calm down. If he’s not neutered yet, get it done.

When my cat gets tired of being petted, her tail starts whipping around forcefully, her ears begin to go flat, and she will finally give me a little warning bite. It’s not enough to break the skin, but it smarts and means “back off, lady!” I usually get the message.

I’m starting to recognize those signs. I admit it’s sometimes tempting to screw around with him a little bit, but that usually comes with a price. I still don’t understand why he always wants to wake me when I’m sleeping, and he’s not. He likes to makes this moaning noise. But anyway, do you guys have suggestions on an effective brush for hair removal?

Since my husband and I are emptynesters, the dogs have become the children! We go out to lunch on the weekend and take the dogs with us. If the weather is nice we eat on the patio along with the dogs; if the patio isn’t opened, they wait in the car with all the windows down happy as can be. To show my true love, my side dish is always something the dogs like so I can share with them. We also have a couple of other restaurants when dogs are allowed on the patio, so they tag along whenever we decide to eat there.

My two are so happy to ride in the car, that I run my errands so they can go with me whenever possible. I have been know to go to an appointment 25 minutes away, come back home to get the dogs, just to turn around and head back to the same area to do a few things! My husband is worst than I am and takes the dogs when he goes to the hospital to make rounds on the weekend just like he did when the kids were little; the only difference is the kids got to go inside with him :)

The best brush I have found for my dog and cat is the furinator. My cat loves it but I have to be careful. Last year I brush his back to often and he started looking a little bald. I got mine off of ebay. My cat also moans around the house. We call it singing the blues.

My dad called me yesterday and said my dog was moping around. I got on Skype, called them, and talked to my dog for a good twenty minutes before she felt better.

Sometimes, I think my dog is too spoiled. Then I remember that there’s no such thing.

I must love my cat because I go through contortions to reach over her to type on my computer because she feels like sitting on my lap, purring and stealing my body heat on a chilly morning.

As my husband and I were slicing the 4 briskets for Passover that I made for both families, the dogs are right at our feet waiting for the meat to fall on the floor! But since we love our dogs and assume everyone else loves them as much, they are fed scraps off the slicer. Oh, and I can’t really say that my hands were washed between feeding the dogs and touches the meat! Besides, germs are good for you and the brisket will be reheated :)

Then there was the time the bigger dog decided to help herself to part of the uncooked squash casserole that was waiting to go into the oven before heading to my aunt’s house for the holidays; oh, nevermind ;)

Things my dogs have stolen off the counter:

An entire pumpkin pie
An entire cooked pork loin roast
Several pieces of broiled chicken breasts, including skin, bones, and all
An entire pan of brownies (yes, chocolate is not good for dogs)
Cookies. Lots and lots of cookies.

We have gotten better at putting things very far back on the counter, but I think the dogs’ front legs are growing.

@Nrdsb4 I have learned to balance my small laptop on the arm of my chair for the same reason. Even so, he sometimes rests his cheek on the left side of the keyboard and makes the computer go wacky.

Two words: dog massage!

anybody successfully toilet trained their cat/dog? I see how the process works, but I’m wondering how long it’s going to take.

I know cats take a long time to train. I still can’t get him to stop bothering me when I sleep.

What’s wrong with a litterbox?

I don’t want him walking around dragging litter everywhere. I don’t want to clean his poop daily. I do want to save money spent on litter. I want one less reason for him to bother me (eg. meowing at me to clean his litterbox)

Besides, I think it’ll be neat.

So if one can toilet train a cat or a dog, does one train him simply to go in the toilet, or can one also train him to flush? That would be so awesome!

I just hope if this cat learns, he doesn’t start doing it liberally, especially in the middle of the night.
