A “safety” school as many posters on CC understand it is one where your admission is a slam dunk, and that you can afford with no problem (preferably without loans). Also one that you would be willing to attend, in the event that none of your other options came through.
Yes, it is important to know which other colleges have attracted you so far, and why. Ideally, your safety will have some similar features or something else that really attracts you, so that if it is the only college you get into, you still will be excited to go to it.
