i need a last substantial senior year class!

i made a chance post over here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=358040</a>. someone said that my senior year looked lightweight (4 academic classes as opposed to 5).

these are the classes i am taking and the classes i will (probably) be taking as a senior.
freshman (honors chemistry, adv honors english 1, honors french 2, honors algebra 2, honors world history)
sophomore (ap calc ab (but took bc exam), adv honors english 2, ap us history 1, ap biology, honors anatomy and physiology)
junior (ap us government and politics, ap statistics, ap english 3, ap chemistry, ap physics c)
senior (to be taken) (ap macoeconomics, ap psychology, ap euro history, ap english 4)

i was wondering if anyone could recommend a 5th class. i’m done the maths and sciences that my school has to offer. should i take a science-y course? a math course? which one? any pointers in any direction? or would it depend on the college i am taking it at? i will most likely take it at drexel because they give me one free class every semester.

thank you so much. :)

Isn’t macro a semester class? And psychology? They are at my school.

If you’re going to do a college class, I would probably do the next calc class available. Or, like you said, a science-y class.

However, seeing as you’ve taken many AP classes before, I don’t think a light senior load necessarily shows a lack of knowledge or drive at all…but definitely try to add some extra spice.

at my class, they take up the entire year. :/

any other suggestions?

You have excellent classes that really show you excelled and took advantage of what your school offered – but I agree, if you are going for top schools your senior year looks a little light.

I would suggest you take a class at Drexel that is upper-level and something that you are interested in and have some background in. Pick an unusual class, not just the “next one in the series” type class.

take a look at the upper level (not intro classes) in departments that you are interested in and see what intrigues you.

so let’s say that i really like chemistry and that i’d like to pursue it. organic chem would be an upper level class–but would it be unusual enough? etc.

for reference’s sake, what classes would you guys classify as “unusual” and “high level”. i’m interested in math and science–but just throwing a few words out there will help me out!

I would avoid organic chem – it is usually a killer of a class (and if it isn’t, it probably isn’t covering enough).

take a look at the course descriptions here <a href=“Drexel University < 2023-2024 Catalog | Drexel University”>http://www.drexel.edu/catalog/UG/COAS/index.htm</a></p>

are you planning on majoring in chemistry? or possibly something else?

What about something completely different than what high school students usually take, like –

Dinosaurs and their world ENVR 171

Sociology of the Environment ENVR 245

Urban Anthropology ANTH 240

it needs to be something that you are interested in and that ties in well with your interests – but look for something a little out of the ordinary – you want the admin officer to say “what about that kid that is taking Dinosaurs and Their World”.

i’m currently thinking about biochem or neuroscience, but that could always change. i can’t see myself majoring in something that isn’t science related though.

thank you! this has been really helpful. :)

I think you have the idea – I am more of a humanities person and so is my son, so it is hard for me to come up with science type stuff. I did think some of the enviro sci stuff looked good. Just kind of look for a class that is a little off the beaten path that would show you interest.
