I need AP Advise

Hi, I am a current freshman at my high school and for my 10th grade year I chose my first AP course, Macroeconomics. After making this decision I decided to do some research on some other APs. A ton of them interested me but the problem is that I don’t think I am smart enough for them. My Classes for next year are:
English 10 Honors
Geometry ( My school decided to divide Algebra 1 into two courses)
Biology Honors ( I think, I need to see how physical science goes)
Global Studies Honors
AP Macroeconomics
Robotics
German II Honors
What is scaring me the most is that all the stuff I read say that a lot of the Exams are pretty easy but when I read more I find out that these people are like the smartest people in the universe. This year I got B’s in most of my academics ( History and Science to come) and I just worried and trying to figure out what I should do. ( I can still drop elective courses like robotics)

I don’t think the most intelligent people in the world are the only ones who excel at AP classes… I’ve always excelled at APs and I am neither intelligent nor am I particularly hard working. But if you’re looking for easier APs to build up your confidence - the following are considered pretty tame:

AP Environmental Science
AP Human Geography
AP US Politics and Government
AP English Language and Composition (if you’re a strong-ish English student)

Well, I want to get into a good college, which is what my math “level” scares me about. The good thing is that my school offers most of these except Human Geo. Also, Should I drop Robotic for something like Algebra 2 or another course that will help improve my writing or math skills

Also, a problem with those courses is that my school doesn’t offer them until 11th grade. The tenth grade APs are Macro (which i am already taking)
Computer Science (Have not taken prerequisites( Recommendation from Java Python or Honors Calc)
All Math APs (No prereqs taken)
Biology (Requires Honors Bio and Honors Chemistry)
Chemistry (Again with prerequisites)
Physics I (Requires Algebra 2 Honors or Pre-Calc)
Physics II (requires Physics I)
Physics Mech (Requires Honors Calculus)
Micro.
So I don’t know what to do.

Well what interests you?

Well, my best subject, I have to say is history. I also think chemistry is pretty cool with all the chemical reactions, but I really don’t know. I want to get way better grades and want to be able to stand out amongst my peers and also to colleges.

@preamble1776
Psych and Comp Sci

Since I’m on CC and naturally have an inferiority complex, I’ll say that I’m getting straight A’s as a sophomore in:

AP European History
AP US History
AP Physics 1 and 2
AP Human Geography
AP Microeconomics
AP Macroeconomics
Honors English 10
Spanish 3/4
Honors Precalc
UConn General Physics 1
UConn General Physics 2
UConn Macroeconomics
UConn Microeconomics

and a bunch of other courses.

Now while I posted that with braggadocio, I’ll be a bit more humile and help.

I posted that to say that though I got a few B’s as a freshman, I’m taking courses that I love and know, and that has left me with the above schedule and A’s.

What I mean to say is that if you take courses you like, that are high level and that are taught well, great grades will follow.

Nah, what I mean to say is that I’m da best!

J.K

Thanks for the advice but what I really want to know is that is should drop robotics for something like algebra 2 so I can reach the math level required to take many APs. Also, @Apollo11 what is an Uconn course Ive never heard that term before.

Also, my school doesn’t offer most APs until junior and senior year and when they do they have a good amount of prerequisites (especially the science ones.) and even when you are in those grades my school does not allow us to substitute the normal required area course for and AP. (Except for Science and Math) so if I wanted to take lets say European History I would have to take the regular course (Modern US History) and pick Euro as one of my 3 electives.

UConn is the University of Connecticut.

Also, my school wanted pre-req’s, but they were alright with me taking courses as long as I showed initiative.

As for Robotics/Algebra 2, I would drop robotics and go to Algebra 2. Getting ahead in math is critical for being able to take a majority of the AP classes, and without doing so, your guidance counselor will likely not state that you have taken the hardest possible courses, which is a big deal in college admissions

@Apollo11 Thanks for the advice! Is UConn like the equivalent of taking classes at a local community college?

I guess, but UConn is a little more prestigious and difficult

@Apollo11 Do you actually have to go to Connecticut to take these classes?

My daughter just took AP/ECE Calculus which is a UConn class. It is offered through their Early College Experience program (ECE)

^That’s the program I’m talking about, but I also have permission as part of the ECE program to simply take UConn courses now that I’ve exhausted the ones at my school.

I would also definitely recommend dropping Robotics for math. In order to take AP Calculus/ AP stats, you would probably be better off being a year ahead.

^Not only that, but it would open the OP up to classes like AP Physics, which are related to the math level of a student

Ok, now that were all sorted out with that I have a question regarding APs. Do you think it is a good idea for a sophomore to self study AP Human Geography? I was told that was the easiest one.

bump!
