I’m really stressed… i can’t decide whether or not to take the opportunity to attend NYU CAS and play soccer for the school or attend Duke. I feel as though Duke’s prestige outweighs that of NYU’s, but I would love the chance to play soccer in college, and probably cant walk-on for Duke. What should I do?

Do you plan on being a professional soccer player? It’s doubtful. Look what’s going to be better for you in the future. Duke will have more name recognition than NYU – if prestige/a name on the diploma is what you want, I think that’s more important than playing soccer for 4 years.

I think it would be difficult to say that the prestige of one school outweighs the opportunity to do something you truly love. It would be tough decision to make, but maybe look at it without those two variables. There are many other things that seperate the two, such as location, nearby internships, etc. I wouldn’t stress about it untill you receive financial aid, because if you’re dead set on one, and the other is significantly more helpful, that will make it all the harder to choose.

I think Duke def. is more prestigious, but come on, NYU is a great school too. Like DublinDoogey said, depending on your career plans, it actually might be more advantageous of you to be in NYC at a slightly less prestigious school. Also, if you plan on going to grad school, that to some extent cancels out whatever your undergrad school is. Your grad school is more important than undergrad.

Choose the university that fits you the best and ignore prestige. They’re both excellent options.

NYU’s average SAT’s and GPA’s about the same as Duke at this point. Duke still sounds more prestigious, but NYU has the same caliber students. Also it depends on your major…CAS has the number 1 philosophy department in the country for example.

Hmm…I don’t think so. NYU is on its way up, but it has some years to go before it will be as prestigious as Duke (if it ever gets that high) and its students are on the whole not as high of caliber as Duke’s, particularly with regard to SATs/GPA.

Still, I find it strange that you even applied to both NYU and Duke, considering the social differences in the schools.

If you want to major in anything like business (especially Stern), drama, film, or journalism, I would go to NYU. Definitely if you want to major in business!!!

I say definetly do NYU and soccer…NYU is a great school plus its in NY so lots of job opportunities and internships…AND u get to play soccer =) not many students play varsity sports at the college level i know i would love 2…but i guess it also depends on whos giving u more money
