Hi–
I am a Junior
My SAT scores are 1550
Math: 570 Reading: 510 Writing: 470
My ACT score is a 23
My GPA is 3.9
I am in the top 10% of my class and there are a lot of students there(350+)
I play varisty soccer and lettered all 3 years
I am a active member of our schools interact club
I am Editor of the School Yearbook

I am really worried about getting into college because of my SAT and ACT scores. I want to go to Ohio State really bad. My dad is an alumni from Carnegie Mellon, so naturally he wants me to go there. I pretty much gave up that after my first SAT scores came in. I am a good student and I am pretty smart, I just can’t seem to get a grasp of the whole SAT/ACT thing.
What should i do?

Lots of people have trouble with standardized testing. And all of the colleges and universities know full well that the best predictor for success in college is your HS transcript which shows not only your grades, but also the classes you earned them in. So, you should stop fretting over your test scores.

If you want to raise your test scores, you should do a test-prep course, or do some self-study. Here’s a link to a discussion about the “Xiggi” method.

If you are just plain fed up with standardized tests in general, there are a whole bunch of very fine colleges and universities that don’t require test scores from all of their applicants. You can read all about it at

Wishing you all the best.

Thank you so much! You have really helped me!
