As the title denotes, I have no idea to where else to apply to. I applied to UW-Madison and got accepted, and deferred at Dartmouth. Here are my stats.
And do not worry about EC’s and stuff, I got those. I am doing the full ib diploma, but with just this peek, what colleges should someone wanting to pursue Neuroscience and English go. Somewhere private, as with my family’s income, we cannot afford public institutions unless they are in-state. I do not think I can get into JHU with my science score, and I have yet to take the SAT subject tests.
Hamilton, Kenyon and Bates would be examples of colleges within your statistical range. To compare yourself within a greater group of schools, you can read through here:
With the exception of statistically rarefied places such as Caltech and, in most likelihood, the University of Chicago, I wouldn’t be inclined to say that any school would be out of your range. However, I’d recommend you apply to several colleges at which your 31 ACT would place you at average or above. For schools within comparative context, you can read through these sites:
Are you content using UW-Madison as your safety and to attend there if needed? If so, and if it is affordable for you family than you can definitely focus on more selective schools. Besides your academic areas of interest, what are you looking for in a college? Any geographical or size preferences?
@doschicos Yep, I am have a good likelihood of getting a full ride there, with a certain program. I am looking at private schools, anywhere where I can for sure get full financial aid. One of my siblings got into Dartmouth with a full ride on financial aid, and I like a many colleges, I just hope to get into them. 10k students and less would be good.
I am also looking at school with a 32 superscored in range.
@Sportsman88 Well, I was looking at the schools, and many of them say that you can turn in subject tests from January if they are sent to them. So it will definitely not be too late.
Even at schools like Dartmouth where SAT subject tests are “recommended” and not mandatory, I would not treat it as optional. Get those tests done if you want to have greater chances at the caliber of colleges you seem to be pursuing. I’d argue that a very large chunk of your competition will be submitting those scores.
@doschicos Yep, that was my thoughts exactly when I got deferred. I think they were expecting it, but when they didn’t see it they didn’t want to invest. I am taking US History, Literature, and Chemistry this January, so maybe that will tip a scale in my favor RD
Sounds like a good strategy. Have you considered Carleton, WUSTL and Emory? Also, if you are female, the women’s colleges are very generous and academically strong.
@doschicos Sorry, I am a male. Also, I am not sure if I have much of a chance at WUSTL. And I do not know what Emory looks like. And if it would be better to go to Oxford or straight into Emory.
As a male, applying to Oxford will be a bit easier (they have more female applicants) and in the end you finish at Emory so it’s win-win.
Run the NPC on Carleton, Macalester, and St Olaf, plus Grinnell.
Your statistics are pretty good. You should look into Fordham, NYU, Boston University, and Northeastern. You’ll have a really good chance for all of those. Good luck!
