here is my problem;I’ve heard a lot of students complaining about public school saying that the class are too big the professros are “cold” and because of the student body size is hard to get involved in research , internship…
I wanted to go to a small private school but they are so expensive and i wouldn’t receive any fin. aid(i’m international student transfer) that’s why i choosed publics schools but now i’m a little afraid.Do you guys have any idea of others schools worth applaying?
I’m gonna major in science( don’t know exactly what)
would like to do a minor in film or french
would prefer in or near a big city
stdy abroad programs and plenty internship

hmm, well publics aren’t necessarily even cheaper than privates, since you are assessed the out-of state tuition cost.

It would also be helpful to get more of your preferences (what kind of a climate would you prefer?) Anything else that would narrow down your list of schools would be helpful because there are dozens that could be suggested to you.

thank you sfgiants…

The only climate that a don’t like a lot is south summer (MS, AL ,GA) too humid but that’s not a big problem…like i’ve said i would like to be in or near a big city ,friendly student body.tha’s about it.
-friendly student body
-in or near big city(1h 2H distance is fine)
-not too humid

  • more personal and accessible staff
About the college prices… i was expecting to pay 30.000 a year…all the privates schools i look at were at least 44.000 up (Emory, Vandy, Northwestern, USC)…
i’m open to any suggestion…please help me if i don’t star studying this year i will be obligated to go back to brasil.

The disadvantages of the large state schools are probably exaggerated on collegeconfidential. The 6 schools you’ve already applied to all have good academics, bigtime sports, and lively campuses. And most state schools are significantly cheaper than private schools, even when you are paying the out-of-state fees.

If you want to add a few prominent state schools that are significantly smaller than the ones you’ve applied to, check out Alabama, Iowa, Oregon, Kentucky, Connecticut, Oklahoma, and Ohio U.

I don’t know about the humidity, but how about Rice? It’s a private university in Houston.
Tuition= 26000
Room and board= around 9000

Rice would be a longshot with a 3.4gpa.

SUNY Binghamton

Temple University
University of Minnesota - Twin Cities

What do you guys think?I have no ideia how good academically those schools are, and what about their reputation??more suggestions are welcome

state university of new york is different b/c many of the schools are smaller instead of having one centralized campus. check out each indivdual campus, perhaps near new york city or suburbs. anything 40 miles from manhattan is still considered a suburb of new york, even on long island (stony brook). The campuses in Buffalo and Albany have big populations, however. SUNY at Purchase is very creative and near NYC. A lot of the other campuses are rural so I’m not mentioning them; perhaps others know better.
I bet you’d enjoy anything in Boston, because it’s a city full of college and graduate students.

nothin’s more humid than Houston; i wouldn’t chase Rice

Case Western U is right in the middle of Cleveland. Anything up in Chicago tohelp him?

The Rhodes website says that tuition, room and board and fees are approximately $39,000, not $29,000

anyone?/I wanna apply today so i won’t worry anymore…
