I need psychological help

Think of all of the time clichés. “Time heals all” “Tincture of time” “Give it time”. Keep up the good work of keeping him “out of sight, out of mind”. Soon this will all be ancient history for you.

Thank you thank you thank you I’m sorry if I seem incompetent or plain stupid but man! Emotions sure are freaking annoying sometimes! Good luck to all of you guys too!!

You’re not incompetent or stupid. You’re human.

Yes, you are human. It takes time to get over a breakup, and you can have all kinds of thoughts about it, but know that this is temporary and you don’t have to act on them.

So, just for imagination, think about a “what if” future where you two got married and now have college age kids and he’s telling them to falsify their applications. Imagine you two are together in some lifetime competition of who is better than who. What if you have a child or a good friend who didn’t get into an Ivy- will he think he is better than them? Do you really want to make your choices according to what he thinks?

I hope that thinking about this will leave you with a “yuk” feeling- and that basing your college decision on what he thinks is not something you want to do. Make your college decision according to what is best for you.

OP,
" Its so exhausting. I’m so sorry if this sounds stupid but its literally tearing me apart. Has anyone gone through this?" - You said it yourself, nothing to add, and NO to the second sentance becasue the firt one is such a truth.

^^^^

@miami, is this how you speak to your own D that we hear so much about when she comes to you for advice?

Yes, if my D. calls something “stupid”, I trust her that it is stupid. There is no reason to rosy up any picture. If they need advice, you better be honest, there is no point otherwise. I am glad that OP realize it, I fully support this part. At this age they have to learn to act based on their own opinion. If they do not learn to stand on their own ground at this age, then life is going to be very very misearable. You are your own boss, that is the only way to live your life.

The OP did not say anything was “stupid” but rather apologized in advance if it might sound that way to others and then went on to say “it’s literally tearing me apart.” Miami, perhaps you should read some of the other responses that posters with children offered, and keep in mind we are responding to a high school adolescent who may just need some guidance and perhaps a kind word.
