Do you all have any advice?
What should be my safety school for spring 2007 admission

3.7 High school gpa 1310 old SAT
3.95 GPA at James Madison University one semester (A- in anthro)
One year working as a professional artist/ one semester studying art in Europe
currently at community college w/ 4.0 GPA
About a year and a half of college in all
Im very confident about my essay but not as confident about recommendations (do any schools not require recommendations?)

I want to go to the best school I can get into.
Great academics and a great campus on the east coast.
I have to transfer in the Spring. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the tip,
I’m probably applying to UVA and William and Mary
UVA is nearly impossible to get in spring semester but I have to try.
I’d love to go to Oberlin, Rice, Brown which are major reaches (Am I insane?) I’ll probably just apply to one of them I definately need a safety school
Could William and Mary be a safety? Or is something like UNC Asheville more realistic?

Yes. There are some schools whose applications are all about the numbers and can be done by filling in a number of blanks on-line. Some that I am familiar with are: UMichigan, Miami of Ohio, St. Louis University, McGill. I think they are optional at Purdue. I realize these may not be schools relevant to you, but just to give you an idea. I don’t know of any master list of such schools; it’s more about lucking into finding that some of the schools on your list have this type of application.

W&M has a transfer acceptance rate of 46%. Not bad, but I hesitate to call it a safety. UNC-Ashville has a transfer acceptance rate of 83% and a minimum college GPA of 2.5. I think that would make it pretty darn safe for you.

Thanks for the suggestions!
Thanks for the info on recommendations jmmom
I don’t think UNC CH accepts spring transfers unfortunately
Is there anything between W&Mary and UNC?
Any more suggestions?
Thanks so much for your help

check collegeboard.com and see if you can just have them identify schools that allow spring transfers…i’m not sure if they get that detailed, but that may be helpful. I think most ppl would like to help more but there just aren’t that many schools that take spring transfers.
