I need some advice...I'm a screwup

My overall GPA I think my counselor told me is 2.3. This is due to 2 quarter in which I had all F’s, one because I was on vacation (and I didn’t feel like makin up all the work, lol, I should have) and the other reason is because I fell ill, and the teachers themselves told me I won’t be able to make up all the work since I missed so much.

Now, I’m in my junior year, and the first semester is about to be over. I may get around 1 something, since I was ill, and all those f’s. If i get a 4.0 next semester, and the 1st sem of my senior year, what are my chances to get into Maryland, or into a university as prestigious as that?

This year, I take AP Lang and Comp, AP World, Russian History, Hon Chem, Physics, Precal, and comparative religion. Next year, after the preceding summer taking english, I will take AP European History, AP Human Geography, AP US History, and EMT Internship. If I don’t get the EMT Internship, I will take Middle East History, AP Stat, Latin American History, and Medieval History.

yea bump…

well it seems that you are turning around your grades and are accepting responsibility a good start! keep up the upward trend and be sure to have a long list of schools that you are interested in. with each including maryland see if they offer a summer session. applying for summer shows that you are highly interested in the school and willing to work to fill in ny academic gaps they may feel you have. good luck…and one more thing start writing an amazing essay asap. good luck

Don’t give up, add into the equation if you get great SAT and ACT (study now). You can always write an essay about overcoming the obstacle of low gpa and lessons learned. I wouldn’t include I was too lazy to make it up.

Talk to you GC and see if you can take summer courses and replace the grades.

Your worst case scenario is go to a smaller college, knock your freshman grades out of the park and transfer.

Finally about UMD, are you OOS or IS. They only take 30% OOS, gpa might be a problem, ut as I said earlier get great SAT and ACT to overcome the gpa.

I’m In-state. And I dont think I can redo those classes, it’ll cost too much money for me.

Any other helpguys?

…?

You better get some amazing SAT scores…

cant say much, just get some crazy SAT scores. one of my friends had a low2 GPA but had a 1580 (this was the old SAT score) and hes attending Duke… not all hope is lost, but you need to make up ground that you lost due to that vacation and illness…

mohammedshsh, I’m in the same boat. Hopefully an upward trend can make them notice you. I agree with writing the essay about overcoming your past grades, and am going to take that advice myself.

I’ve been told that the worst thing that can happen is that we’d only be able to go to a community college, get amazing grades there, and then transfer to a more likeable school two years later. It sucks, but I guess it happens.

Just be sure to put your nose to the grindstone until the day you get that acceptance letter! I know I’m crossing my fingers…
