I need some OOS Schools, help!

Okay, so I’ve applied to William and Mary, and with decisions coming out next week, I’m starting to get a little jittery. So instead of waiting until I get my decisions, I thought I should get some back ups ready just in case.

(My only in state back up is JMU, which is a safety.)

What am I looking for?

Good Merit Aid for my scores/grades

Or really good Finaid

Good English, Art, Foreign Language programs (especially with Japanese)

Good location (I’m not keen on a college smack dab in the middle of a bad part of a city)

Hopefully not so far out of my monetary range that I would end up $200,000 in debt…><

That’s about it. Size doesn’t really matter. Oh…not strictly religious. I don’t want a school with ridiculously stringent rules.

Okay, so here’s my data:

So, any ideas?

I need something competitive, but not so much so that I won’t get any Merit Aid…Dang, this sucks so bad. I want my college to be super competitive academically (I really need it after high school being not very challenging), but I also need money…

Any recommendations at all?

Nice stats! Awesome English ACT!

What will you likely major in?

Are you male or female?

You’re right not to want to have a lot of debt. Undergrads shouldn’t have a lot of debt at graduation. Did you know that if you borrow just $12,500 per year ($50k total for undergrad), you’ll have a monthly payment of $575.00 for 10 years! You’re right to be concerned about loan debt.

Let us know what your interests are and what you’ll likely major in.

Also, do you know how much your parents can contribute towards your education each year?

Do you know if their EFC is low enough that you would qualify for financial aid?

Denison (OH) is good with merit money.

I’m female, likely to major in English or East Asian Studies.

My parents will probably be able to contribute about 6-7k per year (They make about 60k combined). I have not done FAFSA yet, so I’m not sure about the EFC.

I need to put it in a calculator, but the tax forms confuse me, so I’ll have to ask my dad about it.

Your profile screams Earlham.

Emory has a good Japanese/Asian Studies program. They’re on the Kyoto Consortium for Japanese studies.

and Emory meets 100% of Need-Based Aid (which sometimes is very different from what the EFC says it is, mind you). You won’t be getting merit scholarships at Emory, and I don’t know how often they loan money out in need-based packages. In terms of scores/intended major though it seems like a good fit.
