I’m a senior in HS, just finished Junior year. I have very strong AIMS test scores and Stanford test scores. Most of my academic history is strong (the majority being A’s,) and I have logged 100 hours of community service. I have two special achievements in school and I was in the NJHS (National Junior Honor Society,) for a few years.

In the second semester of Junior year I failed two classes, Algebra 2 and Chemistry. I am currently taking summer school for those. The rest of my grades from that semester are A’s, though… If I finish my summer school, complete senior year strongly, and get at least an average score in the SAT’s, then would you say I probably have a good chance of getting into ASU?

My parents already think I’m going to be nothing and that I only have the option of community college. I’m not saying that community college is bad, I just want to reassure my parents that I’m not a failure (in their eyes.)

Also, I play 3 instruments and had a band, and I am also involved in physical activities such as skateboarding, bicycling, etc. If you guys need ANY information please tell me and I will respond. I am also sorry if I sound frantic or otherwise all-over-the-place.

Can you be more specific? In terms of GPA, what is your W and UW GPA and do you know your class rank? Just looking right now, you’ll have no problem getting into ASU, so don’t worry too much about that. I have to tell you that your parents are wrong and they’re probably just momentarily disappointed by your 2 failing grades. Try to pull off around a 1750-1800 and you should be just fine and that’ll probably even land you a scholarship.
If you can provide me with more specifics, I can provide you with a better estimate of acceptance and scholarship.

P.S: You’re activities (ECs) are fine for ASU. Most applicants to ASU don’t even do anything outside of school other than go home, do homework (maybe), and play videogames. It’s a party school. I would consider U of A and NAU as well. (I’m in Arizona as well).

I’m not familiar with ASU admissions but a lot of colleges accept that grade replacement. I just want to say, the grades may have been upsetting to your parents but it seems an anomaly and they don’t have to pile on about your whole life. I think if you make up the classes over summer and are back on track you will have options. Were there some extenuating circumstances? Is everything okay?

Go to Section C to see how you compare. Anything not on your transcript (your ECs, instruments, etc) is not considered in your admission. For that year, they had an 88% admit rate.
