i need your help in deciding!! probably going to get rejected from everywhere

Hi guys, I am currently a junior in high school and I am going crazy about college admission and stuff. I REALLY REALLY want to go to CMU for its engineering, but the more and more I read, I feel like I’m going to get rejected from every school I apply to. Here are my stats:
(tough course schedule also)

Unweighted GPA: 3.783
SAT REASONING: 2130
(Math: 760 WR: 710 CR: 660)

SAT SUBJECT:
Biology: 720
Math IIC: 730
Physics: 700

Extra Creds:
Community Service: 220hrs
Microsoft Internship*
Habitat for Humanity and Ronald McDonald

Major: Electrical Engineering/ Electrical Engineering with CS

Schools: Carnegie Mellon", USC", UCSD", Purdue", UT Austin, Boston University, UIUC.

*pending
" top choices

i guarantee u will get into purdue, although i do not suggest u go there. i am IE from purdue .

I think you have a very good chance at a lot of schools so just chill out and continue to do well in school.

dtshen - why do you not suggest Purdue? I would be interested in your experience.

to the OP - your stats are strong. Make sure that you have a safety you like (Purdue, UT if you are Texas automatic). BU might be a safety for you, but it is getting more competitive so hard to be a true safety for anyone. You should be quite successful in your apps next year. Just be sure to have a range from reach to 50/50 chance to slam dunk safety. Slam dunk safety = you are above top 25%, school accepts MINIMUM of 50% of applicants; ideally it is EA or rolling. Purdue is rolling, so get that app in early and relax.

If money is any issue, you should pick a financial safety in addition to an admission safety. Find a school or two that you could afford to attend even if you got no financial aid. Good Luck!

I know a few students at Purdue and they are having a fun and successful experience.

CMU- slight reach, around 50% chance

USC- good match, around 70% chance

UCSD- Don’t know much about it, but I think you’d have a chance (although both would be reaches) at UCLA and UC Berkeley and I think you should try for both. UCs all have the same application.

Purdue- Definately in

UT Austin- tough for out-of-state, I think you’ll get in though anyway

Boston U/ UIUC- both can not really be safeties (UIUC could be if it weren’t for the fact that you’re applying to engineering), but you’re almost definately in both.

Overall, you could definately apply to more reaches. It looks like you have 1 reach, 1 good match, and 5 safeties/safe matches. You could apply to 1-2 more good matches (Lehigh, Bucknell, U Mich) and 1-2 more reaches (Tufts, Cornell, Wash U, JHU). If you apply to CMU ED (if it’s your first choice) that would increase you’re chances a lot.

ED at CMU, thats a tough one to decide…I’m a california resident, and if I get into the CMU program and also USC or other UCs…I dont know what i will do. is ED binding?

I believe ED is binding everywhere. If you are looking for financial aid, you shouldn’t apply ED, as you will have to commit before you know how much money you are getting.
