I never thought I would do this...

Yes, I have Barron’s 2400, Barron’s ISEE and SSAT, Grubers SAT, and something else for writing essays. :D

Oh, right. You’re doing the SAT.

No, I’m doing the SSAT. I’m in 9th grade -_-. Sorry if that wasn’t clarified.

Chaos, careful with barron’s isee/ssat. Compared to Princeton review, it seemed rather basic. By the way, grubers is awesome for sat math prep, one word of caution, it does not include Algebra 2. Good Luck to you Chaos

Ah, I see! I’ll shall take that as a word of caution (actually now, I’m going to order Princeton Review too). Are there any math (only) books for SAT?

Thank you. :)

There’s no need to go overboard. These books all have about the same information in them. Anyway, as long as you have an SSAT score within the acceptable range, it won’t be a big factor in your admissions.

Thats the problem. :D

You honestly don’t think that you’ll do well on the test? You obviously have the math skills, and it sounds like the verbal and writing skills to do well.

How much of my applications should be done by around this time? :p

I haven’t done any yet. I want to visit the schools first and see which ones I want to apply to before I spend a lot of time on their applications. Also, I want some of my clubs/sports to start before I send them in.

Yeah, I want to wait until some EC’s start before I send in my application. Plus, I won’t be getting recmomendations until mid November.

All I have done are a few of my essays, which I will probably be redoing. I want them to be the best that I can do. :)

Well, my list is as follows: Exeter, Andover, Choate Rosemary Hall, and Hotchkiss.

Now, I need a school that I can actually get in to. :stuck_out_tongue:
Any suggestions for safeties or matches (other than M’Burg) which fit my math and science requirements?

I think that Deerfield and Peddie both have new science buildings. You might want to check them out if you haven’t already. I hear that science is strong at Loomis Chaffee. The caveat for that school is that it is only 60% boarding and more than 50% CT students. It is a large school, so this may not be an issue. My son is going to Blair Academy which is a wonderful school. The math path there goes through multivariate calculus. If you can get beyond that, I imagine that you can take an independent study with a teacher. Blair allows you to take more than 5 academic courses a semester if you get permission from the Dean of Academic Studies. My son is taking 6. I heard of someone taking 7. Many schools do not allow you to do that.

ChaosTheory,

I’m sorry, I didn’t see your math/science requirements. I take it that Culver has fallen off the radar as a safety, since our last discussion.

Excellent. Unfortunately, I don’t think I will be attending Culver; a bit of it has to do with location - there is no one in my family out there. On the other hand, an uncle of mine (NASA) lives up in NH, so it’s good. :)

Blair looks really good for a match\safety with a 59% acceptance rate. However, it does not have many extracurriculars (12).
Too bad Deerfield and Peddie aren’t safeties. I think I need to do a little more research; any other suggestions are welcome, I will highly appreciate them. Today, I got my Exeter apps. Choate will be arriving soon. :p

Fair enough. Familial support is very important. (NASA???)

Yeah, he’s a beast at NASA - And my parents are always comforted when there is a genius uncle in the vicinity. :D

By the way, Peddie’s Annenberg science center looks amazing.

Blair has more than 12 ec’s – I just don’t know how many. I know they have a competitive math club & an investment club that are not listed on their website. I suspect that clubs at any school vary with student interest. Anyway, if having a plethora of ec’s is a requirement for you, you should look at the larger boarding schools (more than 500). They will tend to have more ec’s by virture of the larger population. The tradeoff is that you will have less of a closely-knit community.

Ah, I see, very good. If that is the case, then I will definitely consider Blair as match. I do not necessarily require many ECs, simply put I could not find the ECs I was looking for. To me, population is not that big a factor; I am open to any (most) good school(s). :)
