I-Phone "No sim card installed" ???

Yep. Driving 8 hours tomorrow and my iphone 3 g is randomly giving me this message “No Sim Card Installed” . Well, yeah there is. Stupid techno phone. I have to turn it off and back in, and then it recognizes it has a sim card and I can call.

I have removed and re-inserted the sim. Cleaned the contacts. Everything looks good. And by random, I mean no consistency or pattern at all. It started doing this a week ago, then stopped. And now, today, right when I need it the most for this trip, it’s goofed.

Anybody have a “fix”? Yeah. I googled it, but I’d rather trust somebody here. One dude had you taking the back of the phone off and pushing stuff around wih a little screwdriver. Uhhhh…no. ;)

This happens to me, too. I just turn it off and back on over and over until it starts working again. I think if you take into the store they’ll replace it with a new sim and that will solve the problem, but I don’t have the time to do that right now…

Sim cards do go bad. You can drop by any ATT store on your driving route and get a new card. That’s what I did when my old phone (not an iPhone) had a similar problem.

It happened to me few years back. I went to AT&T first because it was a sim card problem. They tried with few new ones, and it didn’t fix the problem. I went to Apple’s main store in NYC, they also tried to tell me it was with AT&T. I told them no. I finally convinced them to put AT&T sim card into a new iPhone, and I walked with a new phone.

I think you phone needs to be replaced. I would take it to Apple to see if you could get it replaced.

Isn’t that frustrating? It happened to me a few week ago to my brand new iphone/sim card. They replaced the sim card. So far so good.

Took it to the ATT store. Fella took the card out, bent it around a little, stuck it back in and said “Fixed”. Gee. I hope so. And glad I didn’t pay for that. lol.
