I put my children on my Uber account

I haven’t seen this mentioned, but Uber has a family account feature so that family members can use the service and have it charged to a single credit card. I asked my children to download the app and connect it to my account. If they ever feel they shouldn’t drive home, or that the person they are with shouldn’t be driving, I’ve told them to use Uber. And there are no questions asked, nothing to explain later.

I just thought I would suggest this to some of you with kids in both high school and college.

Great suggestion!

Our HS PTO hosts a session each spring where parents who already have children in college provide helpful hints to parents who are sending the first child off to college. I had never even used Uber the first time I heard this mentioned three years ago, but have found many parents who use it regularly and are very comforted by it as I think the parent can see when the child has reached home. Someone correct me if I am wrong about that.

Since this time, our HS has had to ask students to stop using Uber for lunch deliveries!

^^
What?

Kids were ordering food to be delivered to school by Uber? Oh my! My kids would be knocked upside the head!

My 17 and 14 year old daughters are on our lyft and uber accounts (they each have the apps on their phones). We see when they order a car, we see who the driver is/type of car and when they arrive. We live in Philly and our girls go out with friends and have extra-curricular activities. Our 17 year old goes to and from her friends houses. We do not have to worry about them always having cash.

@mom2collegekids — mine also! I still make lunch for my HS son every morning. Apparently there is some new service where Uber delivers food—UberEats.

I’m sure the perfect children of CC would never abuse Uber, but…

there was a case recently where a 14 year old called for Uber after midnight to take him to a party. The mother blamed Uber, saying they should have known better than to transport a 14 year old. How? How would the Uber driver know that the child was heading TO the party and not calling to be taken from a dangerous situation?

I think it’s a great idea! Just a little off topic, but I just recently found out…duh…there is an option when requesting a ride where you can split the Uber charge, but the person has to also have one and be able to accept the charge. That’s great for that friend who never pays you back, especially when there’s a surge charge.

Separate issue, but lyft has a deal with Hertz where they rent cars to drivers to be lyft drivers. The amount of insurance required by the drivers seems to be limited (since they dont own the cars) and Hertz offers limited coverage. This makes me very uncomfortable as a passeger

Our hs banned food deliveries to the school at lunchtime with Uber eats!

My S has our Uber. At least I know he gets home safely.

I use d1’s Uber acct.
