Car service/taxi. I’ll spend money on expensive restaurants or designer bags, but I would always opt for public transportation rather than paying for a car service. I have taken public transportation all over the world.
I’m with you here! Especially in my neck of the woods where we pay hefty Sound Transit taxes. Gotta get something for my $$! So I take the bus or the light rail wherever I can.
I love well made clothes and shoes but I hate paying full price for designer clothes and shoes. I’m a queen of discount shopping for a reason. If something I bookmarked doesn’t go on sale, then good bye, sayonara, adios, do sveedanya.
There was one night in nyc that I would have cost me 2.90 for a subway ride vs 200 for an Uber. Hmmm, no,
Same here! DH was a lumberjack in Alaska for a few years. He cuts down all our problem trees. We live in the woods so we have a lot of them!
We haven’t cut the cable cord for a variety of reasons, and I hate paying that bill. It just goes up and up.
TurboTax state filing fee
Toll roads. We live in a state that doesn’t have them and I always get surprised with bills when visiting other states.
I do spend quite a bit on my hair cut and color but I don’t hate spending that money as it feels worth every penny
$4.75 for a Venti Iced Coffee at Starbucks everyday
I hate “surprise” bills that are much higher than expected.
That said, I am OK with paying for things that I know I am purchasing but I would definitely be irked if I was charged for every little thing I mentioned when speaking with my MD, especially if no special testing was done to include/exclude.
I hate spending money on poor quality and poor service, especially when there’s a monopoly, like utilities and some cable providers, yes phone and water companies, YOU!
We HAD 4 dying trees - a big wind storm in December took 1 down. It fell across the road, so the town was responsible for removing it. I have been kind of hoping that might happen with the remaining 3, but it looks like we’re going to have to bite the bullet.
TIRES. H is a stickler for making sure all tires are “current”. I dread it when he starts to talk about how they’ll need to be replaced. They’re so expensive! And they’re just……tires….
We have a good chainsaw, so if anything smaller needs to come down DH takes care of it. I hate spending money on things we can do ourselves; I replaced the drain pump on the washer for $30 myself because I refused to pay someone $300 to fix it. YouTube is one of my best friends at this point Our trees are all old growth massive cedar, tulip poplar and a white pine. They need to bring in a scissor lift and climber. @thumper1 guess I shouldn’t complain then: 3 massive trees taken down, cabling of another, trimming of another and 2 stump grindings and they’ll cut the cedar for firewood and it’s $3,600. I do like the pricing here a lot better than what we had in PA.
Tires are critical for the safety of the vehicle.
Driving habits can make a big difference in how long the tires last. Let’s just say that leaving skid marks when stopping for and accelerating away from every traffic light tends to increase tire expense (as well as fuel and brake pad expense).
and if you live in MA excise tax every year!
We had two enormous Ash trees on our property that fell victim to the dreaded Emerald Ash Borer. For the first tree, the tree service took 2 1/2 days with a full team of 3 guys and a bunch of heavy equipment (cherry picker, etc.) He charged me $2,500 and told me “he lost his shirt on this one” For the second one, he had learned better and charge me over $3,000 to remove it. In both cases they removed all the wood and in one case the ground the stump also.
Honestly, although I hated spending that money, it was money well spent for the peace of mind that the trees were not going to come crashing down on the house next big wind storm.
That’s what our tree had too. Now we have two large trees with red bark disease. I think they will need to come down this year. Ack. And while I hate spending the money…this needs to happen.
Years before (over 20 years ago), we had a bunch of hemlocks that were victim of the hemlock woolly adelgid and we had to take all those down. They were big mature evergreens that we hated to lose. We did replace a bunch with small pine trees that did grow up to be big and beautiful and took there place.
Or on a person. A coworker of H lives in a rural area. A neighbor had a large tree he wasn’t sure if it was his or the DOT. Called DOT who came out and I believe said it was the homeowners. Not long after a wind storm came and just happened to blow the tree down just as a family drove by. Killed the parents in the front seat. The youngish/elementary school aged kid in the back was fine. They got out and wound up on the coworker’s porch in shock. Bad situation.
So while it’s terrible to take them down, sometimes they do. We’ve taken down tons in our lifetime. Our neighbor last month finally paid the $3000 to have a giant oak taken down in their back yard, similarly taking 2.5 days with all kinds of people and heavy equipment.
My neighbor across the street has two giant trees in their front yard that are rotting. But between the power lines and being close to a 100+ year old house, the tree guy next door said nobody wants to touch them. He gave him a price of $5000 per tree. We are afraid something bad will happen eventually.
How can I be the only one who hates spending money on toilet paper? It’s always the first thing that comes to my mind when asked this question. It literally is flushing money down the drain!
