Insurances- cars, health, home in that order.
TV was free with commercials. You paid to have cable tv with no commercials. Now everybody is selling everything from everywhere.
Our family deductible was $10,000 during the final 5 or so years of my husband’s employment. The premiums were also high.
So true. No commercials is what made cable special. Now it seems there are more commercials than on broadcast TV
Mine is $7000. One person.
Our insurance premiums are low and the company puts $1400 into our HSA to help pay our deductible.
Unfortunately I guess for us, we max out our plan every January. Max out of pocket is $7000.
It’s an expense we know we have to spend every year.
We are definitely hoping the max of $2500 once husband goes on Medicare is true because we would be in the donut hole every year otherwise. Even though he will have to switch medication.
I do feel lucky because my husband’s quality of life is amazing with the very expensive drugs he takes. We are very lucky to live in the time that we do and for modern medicine. And that we can afford it.
Health is worth so much.
I would be fine with paying for my cut but I can’t stand the procedure: drive, park, endure half an hour of small talk and a lecture about stuff I don’t want to use, pay, scan validation, drive… Looks like you have it figured out with “home delivery.”
I thinking getting my hair cut and colored would be under things I don’t mind spending money on.
And comfortable shoes
My deductible went up to $5000 this year for our family, but my company refunds anything over $2500, so that’s my effective deductible.
You’d love the place where I get my hair cut in Chinatown. In and out in 15 minutes. I take the subway, right there, but easy to park at munimeter.
Lucky! My hair, unfortunately, requires 30 minutes of manipulation to make it look presentable because it is straight, thin, and thinning - the 15 min places took just as long as the gal I’m using now. She is doing a great job and is not very chatty which is good.
Home repairs that you just have to do, are costly, and you just don’t sit around admiring. Roof and driveway!
You finally save up enough to pay for the car, then you have to pay for the gas, the oil changes, the regular service, new wipers, new tires, insurance, repairs…(parking, tickets, tolls, registration, smog)
it literally never stops…
…landline for the house. We are committed to keeping it until my mom is gone, because reasons.
…tires. Why on earth are they SO much? And don’t tell me I need them to pass the next state inspection and then the guys at the tire place say nope, they are fine for now.
…interns, offices, newsletters, and other “perks” of Congress…
Just today wrote a check for $28000 for a new roof and gutters. New shingles are the same color and type as the old, so it’s just like giving the roof a coat of paint.
Me too!!! Even over $20 gives me pause
This!!! We have 4 large diseased trees at risk of falling towards the house in the next storm. They’re also going to cable a large white pine and trim an 80ft white oak. We need to do it to keep everything else healthy, but
- it makes me sad to cut them down
- it’s a few thousand dollars
I don’t like spending money on clothes, makeup, haircuts, etc so I rarely do it. I’d rather take time to look at thrift shops for something I need than walk into a department store.
Ack…I forgot about tree removal. We had ONE tree taken down and it was $3200. We have two that need to come down this year…I hope we get a group rate.
Tree removal! I’d hate to pay for that. I guess I don’t need to complain about my husband’s love of chainsaws. He removed so many dead trees on our and our friends’ properties it was probably $$$$.
I have similar hair–not enough gray to just go gray–but ditched my stylist’s coloring ($$$) for this:
I use 1/5 of the bottle per treatment. It lasts like 5-6 weeks and looks much better than prior to treatment. I let it sit for an hour. It does not cover everything, but I have to lean into the vanity to see any gray.
Our trees were VERY VERY tall. We have a chainsaw too…but really…it would have been a challenge to remove this tree.
We do smaller trees ourselves…because we can.
But I did hate writing that check. NO joy in removing a treee.
