“I really hate spending money on ________.” How would you complete this sentence?

We just booked airline tickets and a rental car. The fees were outrageous! Really outrageous. I hate those added fees.

Wow. That is a highway robbery. There is a reason we avoid live concerts and shows… and that is NOT fear of Covid or another easily transmitted virus. Ticketmaster is such a disease!!!

If they are a monopoly on ticket sales from the event (as opposed to the secondary or scalper market), then it is not surprising that they can collect monopoly rents (i.e. high fees and commissions for themselves that would not be doable in a competitive market).

At my firm we can give out “kudos” to people who have done over and above. The first few times I was happy to get recognized, but then found later that I got taxed on those kudos because they were some money (you could cash out for some items). I told people to stop giving me kudos.

We get taxed on our “Thank You” Visa gifts cards when we hit a 5 year milestone at work. Gift cards are between $25-100, so it’s not a lot, but still…

I won’t tell you tree people what we pay here for tree removal but it is nowhere near what you all are paying. Btw, look up grapple saw. Our guys used that on a giant pine of ours and it was amazing. Tree was down in thirty minutes and the grapple carried it to the grinder.

I hate paying for insurance, roofing and driveway maintenance.

Isn’t it better to get money and pay taxes than not to get money at all? Like people work for money even though they pay taxes later on.

It seems like @oldfort sometimes got items that they would not have purchased for the amount of money that they paid in income taxes due to their value being added to W-2 income, and were not able to be switched to cash.

My H looks at offsite rental car pickup locations all the time.

I hate spending $$ on repairs that cost more than if we had spent the $$ to hire a contractor/service professional sooner. We agonize over these things (new windows, heavy-up electrical, primary bathroom reno), and now we are paying through the nose for our reluctance to spend $$. Sigh!

The court system seems to think so.

Doesn’t one only receive a traffic ticket as the result of a poor choice?

This just reminded my my previous hair stylist would provide a single total of wash/cut/style and product. I told them I don’t tip on top of the high cost of the product, break it out. Ridiculous I had to ask. I’m guessing most folks that frequented that salon didn’t even look at their charges - I moved shortly after that to a better stylist at half the price.

Adjusting your driving habits to reduce the risk of traffic citations with attendant delay and expense may be worth considering. Also, such adjustment may reduce the risk of crashing.

My responses were meant to add levity to the thread. Other than receiving–and getting dismissed–a traffic ticket for going 20 mph in a 15 mph zone, my driving record is clean and has been for decades.

Sheesh, actually did mine today. Ate out. Terrible food, worse service. :rage:

I just found a new one that annoys me. Destination charge at a hotel. For where we are staying it is $17 per night which can add up quick.

When I looked up what it covered it was basics like use of business area, workout room etc. It does include a few house drinks at the bar but I don’t even drink. Argh!

Sounds similar to the mandatory “resort fee” charged in some places, methinks to just get a cheaper looking price during online searches. The one place we had a bit of value add was in Waikiki beach where we could borrow chairs and umbrella (if you got there early enough) and paddle board (fun!)

Reminded of another today, valet fees! In Atlanta for the weekend, I really hate mandatory $50 valet fees and no options to self park.

And the valet still expects a cash tip!

Check out Capital One Cards.
