I really need an advice.

Hello everyone. I am from Toronto. I am an immigrant and came here 2 years ago from Belarus, therefore my native languages are Russian and Belorussian . I just finished grade 10. I really want to get into MIT for aeronautical engineering program. I just have one huge problem - SATs. So far my high school is going good - i have a lot of different extra curr activities - starting from music finishing with sutdent council etc… I am in 4 athletic teams. My avg is 92% and my math and physics marks are around 100%… My school is the only school in area who provides AP program and i am currently taking Physics, Functions, and Chemistry AP. As you see i am doing pretty well. I ve started preparing for SATs and realized that i cannot get a score above 2000 and since this score is a basic requirement for MIT or any ivy league school i am a little bit confused. What should I do? My language level is not high enough to compete with people who were born and North America and capable of getting 2400. Can you guys give me an advice what to do? And some things i have to work on in order to achieve my dream?

It’s great that you have high marks in maths and physics. I think that you are mistaken when you said that having a score above 2000 is a requirement for getting into MIT or any Ivy League school. There is no score that you must get to get into these colleges. Admissions officers will know that you will probably do worse on critical reading and on writing. They will know that you are an immigrant and will not compare you directly to people who have been in America their whole life. Just do the best you can. Do you know if you have to take the TOEFL, the Test of English as Foreign Language?

No i think after two years residence/schooling in a English main language country,ie. Canada, your TOEFL scores will not be considered. I have to agree with dchow08; you do not need a SAT score of 2000 to get into Ivy League schools…[check this site out](http://www.satprep.ca/sat_scores.asp)…as you can see some Ivy League universities accept ppl who have a SAT score lower than 2000.

Of course, a score of 2000 would look really good, but you might be able still get in because of your extracurriculars and other stuff…and your transcripts/essays/SAT Subject Tests will also be considered when you turn in your application.

Thank you for info. I am planing to write TOEFL this September cause i want to go to MIT engineering summer program… What it says that every person with English being not as their first language must submit their TOEFL result in order to apply for that program. So can I back up my SATs with TOEFL. Another thing, what if my math, physics chem scores are around 800 and my English is in 500s???
