I received this email from DBU. Do they send this email to everyone to increase the number of their applicants or do they send it to a group of selected students?
"Hello from Dallas Baptist University, xyz!
You are a standout student whom we would like to consider for admission to DBU. That’s why we’re in touch: we’d love to see you apply to DBU in the fall."
We are not from Texas nor from anywhere near Texas, and we did not hear from this particular university. However, you are likely to get a lot of ads like this if you are a junior in high school.
We started getting ads like this when my oldest daughter took the PSAT. They tailed off in her senior year of high school and then restarted when my youngest took the PSAT.
Each school decides who to send these too. I had thought that we were getting them based on PSAT scores being in-range for the schools that were sending us ads, combined with geographic proximity in some cases. We got more ads from universities that were nearby. However, I think that we got a few from schools such as Stanford which are more than 2,500 miles away.
You can look forward to getting a lot more of these.
Way back in the early 80’s I started getting letters from the University of Iowa after I took the ACT test. I am familiar with DBU and it is not a school for everyone.
DD started receiving that stuff freshman year from colleges at all ends of the spectrum. She checked the box not to share her address on her AP exam and on the PSAT 8/9. She gets mail anyway. I wouldn’t read anything into it whatsoever. It is marketing, that’s all.
It is sometimes mind-boggling to think about how many colleges there are in this country that very few people have ever even heard of…and all of these colleges must figure out a way to get students onto their respective campuses.
