I seem to be re-charging a lot of electrical items...

and they all have different connections. Why can’t they come up with a standard connection? Or maybe they have and I don’t know about it (Age 61 - technology user but always challenged).

Is there any easier way to recharge all of these things without a connection cord? Did they ever perfect the pad that you lay your item on to be recharged?

I’ve got a Nokia Windows phone that can be charged just by putting it on a charger pad wirelessly… I still use a wire though to charge mine. Batteries and chargers can be junky for many items like flashlights, etc. many of the imported lithium batteries from China are junky and can be dangerous to use. gotta be careful what you use.

There is a very slow movement toward a de facto standard charging plug now that so many devices can be charged via a USB computer connection. I think it will be a few more years before they all use the same plug. I took white adhesive tape and made tags with the device name on it for all my charging cords.

One snag with such pads is how pad chargers like that could shorten the lifespan of lithium ion batteries slightly due to greater heat generated and charging may take longer due to less efficient transfer of current.

It isn’t just Chinese made lithium-ion batteries which could be dangerous to use.

There was a rash of laptop fires/smoke due several years ago across the laptop industry due to defective Japanese made SONY batteries which had its lithium contaminated at the factory.

Lithium as an element under certain conditions such as direct contact with water, oxygen, or other contaminants if the protective layers are compromised could ignite or even explode. In cold weather or if one plans on storing the battery for a while, one should leave the battery charged around 40-60% and checking periodically as running it to absolute zero too many times could shorten battery lifespan.

Also, if the lithium-ion battery is kept at zero for too long, the battery automatically disables itself as charging a battery subjected to that is very dangerous.
