I think AP Environmental screwed me over

Average: 96 (quite a few kids in my school have 100+ averages so I don’t stand out too well lol)
SAT: 2050-2150
EC: Band for 4 years, Chess Team for 2 years, Wrestling Team for 1 year, 2 Powerlifting competitions, 1 award winning research project, took a whole years worth of work in the Scientific and Engineering Research program at my school: the project was on the dangers of texting while driving (QOL), volunteered at a pharmacy, worked with a professor over the summer that helped me create a literature review and methods for a new research project that I was supposed to do (unfortunately it didn’t work out and I quit SERP) and going to join key club.
APs: 8 by the end of senior year. I took AP world sophomore year, and this year I’m taking AP Russian, AP US, self studying for AP Psych, and taking AP Environmental. Senior year I plan on taking AB or BC Calculus, AP Macro, AP Physics, and AP Lit. This is an issue because I really wanted AP Bio but now I’m stuck with Environmental this year, a class that no college cares about. It is literally pointless for me to be taking AP Environmental because my goal school, Purdue, doesn’t even accept the credits that you get from taking the test. I really wanted colleges to see that I was challenging myself Junior year by taking AP Bio but now I guess I’m stuck with this joke of a class, how significantly do you think my chance of getting into Purdue will be effected because of the APs that Im taking/taken?
My school is the 2nd best in NY state, and 22nd in the U.S (based on some arbitrary rankings lol)
Negatives: Although I should break 2100 on the SATs based on the practice tests and because I’ve been studying for so long, I maintained a C/B in Geometry freshman year and a C in trigonometry that almost turned into an A by the end of sophomore year, I also maintained a B in chemistry throughout all of sophomore year, all my other classes were As for the past 2 years. So as of now I have a 95 average, and i hope to be a straight A student this year and achieve/maintain a 97-98 average. My goal school is Purdue University

Oh and guys btw, I’m applying to Purdues school of engineering so admission will be harder.

bump

Don’t bump after 90 minutes.

What’s your question? Will you get rejected because you took AP Environmental Science instead of AP Bio? I doubt it. When people disparage APES, it’s usually in reference to college credit. Many private universities do not give credit for EPES, but most public unis do grant credit. Taking any AP class will add rigor to your schedule, so choosing APES was a better decision than opting for marine biology. Certainly it is viewed more highly than self studying AP Psych (not being snarky; I self studied it too).

Will you get into Purdue? Without actual SAT scores, it’s hard to say although you seem to be on the right track. Good luck.

Ok thanks man, really appreciate the response.

FWIW AP Russian isn’t actually a thing yet…

But yeah, you should be pretty good. Colleges like research.

Actually, there is a prototype exam; I assume that’s what the OP was referencing.

Yeah there is an exam, every student has to take Russian at my school.

OK, I will bite. I posted about this in another thread and I will repeat what I learned here.

I had a similar discussion with my D’s GC concerning the state flagship’s definition of “Most Rigorous.” Purdue also rates course rigor as “very important” so MAYBE the same logic applies.

My D was planning on taking APES senior year. CG told her to take AP Bio instead, even though she already took Honors Bio. APES would help GPA, but otherwise not impress the AO at the state flagship.

GC was adamant that “Taking any AP class will add rigor to your schedule” was NOT true at our state flagship (YMMV). She stated they like to see progression in rigor, like AP Calc (AB or BC) and AP world languages. Also some APs were seen as more rigorous, like APUSH and AP sciences with lab (Chem, Physics, Bio, not ES). AP Lang and Lit are assumed mandatory as is AP Gov.

Taking additional APs to gain college credit was not looked unfavorably, but was not considered “most rigorous.”

How does this affect you? You should discuss this with your CG. You will have one AP science w/lab in Physics so they may consider you to have taken the most rigorous course load. If not, you may need to add AP Bio senior year. This is what GC are for, they are the judge of what is rigorous at your school and should be able to advise you as to how Purdue would view you.

BTW, I would agree with the following: " choosing APES was a better decision than opting for marine biology. Certainly it is viewed more highly than self studying AP Psych."

So what’s your exact major at Purdue?

Anyway, I think you’re in for most engineering majors as long as you get above your goal of 2050 SAT score. Purdue engineering isn’t too difficult to get into for above average (A-/B+) students. I got in with a 3.79 UW GPA and a 2130 for engineering. Applying early definitely helps.

yeah i think you’ll have no problem getting in

ok thanks for the insight guys. Btw to iamjack, i intend to go into aerospace engineering and I forgot to mention that my 96 average is weighted lol… Did you end up going to Purdue man?
