I have lived on the tiny island of Cyprus for 21 years. Arrived on the day Sadam H attacked Kuwait. What is happening here now is not probably making the papers. Because of such incompetency of the ruling class, president etc. Our main power station has been blown up, people killed, rolling black outs, water cuts. It is not an “act of god” but an act of human political stpidity. The population, middle class, doing pretty well is furious. They are marching every night calling for ouster of the ruling class who they consider criminals. If you had told me a month ago that this scenario was possible, I would have laughed. I am on my iPad cause power could be cut at anytime… I have candles on standby and matches. Just to let you know. It is a twitter and Facebook event as well.

Wow!

Wow, sorry for you, and no, I had not yet heard about this. Be safe, I hope it calms soon.

overseas, please stay safe!

I am actually fine but I live near the presidential palace roundabout which I guess is like Tahir Square Cyprus style…it is active at night. We get pretty hot here during the day…I am usually not here in summer, but thought it would be nice to be here for a change. It is a change alright!

Thanks for the up to the minute report! Be safe, keep us informed.

I’m sorry to hear that. We lived in Cyprus for a couple of years many years ago and I still have a great fondness for it.

Power back on probably rest of night. I can hear the speeches which have been going on for two and 1/2 hours. I can see parts of city that are now dark.

Hope nothing too bad happens. Thanks for keeping people informed, I had NO idea.

overseas, amazing. You’re a witness to history. Stay safe through it all. I’m surprised we haven’t heard about this.

Thank you for sharing your first-hand account of history in the making. Please stay safe.
