I think I failed community college but have questions

For the most part I have received B’s & C’s on my grades but…

I’m currently attending Diablo Valley College (DVC) and I failed my Math 120 class once and on my third, & final, retake I will probably receive a D–I’m certain I will.

Because California community colleges only allow for 3 retakes I think I’ll be kicked out of DVC.

1) If I plan on attending a different community college a few miles away, will the new community college take my bad math grades into consideration or will I have a blank slate?

2) If I do get accepted to the new community college, pass, and want to transfer will those universities I plan on transferring to (Cal States or UC’s) take my failed DVC math grades into consideration?

Please answer!

Your transcript will follow you EVERYWHERE ! the only way out of it is to get academic renewal but this is for students who haven’t been in school for years so… yeah.

Academic renewal without course repetition
Academic renewal allows students to have up to 15 units of substandard grades (“D,” “F,” or “NP”) excluded (without the student’s having to repeat the course) from their grade point averages. To be eligible, students must have earned 20 consecutive units of “C” grade work or better since the substandard grades were assigned. To be considered consecutive, all units earned in a given semester must be “C” grade work or better. Students interested in academic renewal should request a petition from the Admissions Office.

[Diablo Valley College - Improving Grade Point Average](http://www.dvc.edu/org/info/policies/improving-gpa.htm)

do you fit?

Probably not since he’s receiving a D this semester…

Your transcript will follow you. I’d suggest contacting the head of the math department. I tutored developmental math courses at my community college. With a formal petition, it was theoretically possible to retake any math course on a case by case basis.

Before you invest more of your time and resources into another semester, take a step back and figure out what is affecting your academic performance.

I also attend a community college. In my experience, students that struggle academically do so because of life circumstances; you may have a job (or jobs), a family to support, unfavorable socioeconomic status (poor), scheduling problems, etc; A very small group of students struggle because they lack good study habits or simply don’t care; and even smaller group of students are just not meant to be in a college setting.

Figure out what is affecting you before you plunge ahead once again. But do not follow my advice blindly! GO SPEAK WITH AN ACADEMIC ADVISOR AND/OR A TRUSTED FRIEND; explain your situation to them and find reasonable answers. Good luck!
