You know, the one where you can’t leave the town and horrible things happen to people.

So we were supposed to leave Friday morning to drive to Florida with the cat to be snowbirds (and snowcat) for a month for the first time ever. This is because I hate living in the frozen north and want to move somewhere warm; this was a consolation prize.

First we had to postpone leaving a day because of the big southern storm. Getting all packed up Friday night, DH starts complaining of abdominal pain, lasts all night, we end up in the ER Saturday morning. After four hours and a cat scan they (thankfully) rule out appendicitis but instead diagnosed him with a small kidney stone and sent him home.

Now poor DH is in high pain mode even with the prescription meds and trip is postponed a week (if we’re lucky) or never (if not).

The only good thing about all this is that we did not leave when originally planned, in which case we would have been somewhere in the middle of Kentucky when the pain hit. Absolutely no insult intended to Murfreesboro but in a hotel with the cat and moaning groaning DH…

I would feel sorry for myself if I didn’t feel so sorry for him. Thanks CC for a place I can vent!

The only solace I can offer is that once that kidney stone passes, which could be any moment, your husband will be good as new immediately–no lingering effects. My condolences to him–I have chronic kidney stones and I’d rather give birth to triplets.

Kidney stones can be so painful. I thought they used laser now to break them up? I was on vacation with b/f and his father when b/f had an attack. quite painful

Its damp here in my southern city, if that helps any. Next week should be warmer.

So sorry, Marilyn! I can sympathize both because my dh has had multiple kidney stones, and because I would love to be a snowbird too, one day. Hoping your dh is well soon and that you’re able to get your trip underway later this week.

Speaking of being stuck in something - how about renting “Groundhog Day” and watching it with dh? It’s a great feel-good movie, tomorrow is February 2nd, and it shows there are worse places to be stuck than the Twilight Zone. :)

Thanks for the sympathy - DH was asleep when I woke up so the pain must be a little better I hope. He sure doesn’t want to do anything except stay in bed!

Frazzled - I’ve seen Groundhog Day over and over LOL! We’ve been to the town where it was filmed (Woodstock IL) a couple of times and it’s fun to walk through the square. The private home that played the B&B where Bill Murray stayed was sold a year or so ago and is being turned into a real B&B. [Royal Victorian Manor](http://www.royalvictorianmanor.com/)

Tomorrow I will be watching Lost, which is somewhat akin to Twilight Zone in spirit.

Only if they’re above a certain size. If they’re “gravel” or small stones, they simply pass naturally - the laser turns larger stones into gravel, so there’s nothing that can be done for gravel. Of course, it still hurts!

I often have to go to Woodstock for work, and love to drive around the square (as I don’t often have time to get out and walk around!); it’s so very quaint. Anytime I do get out of the car, my bank account always suffers.

Actually, if warranted, they use sound waves to break them up. Smaller ones just pass.

Depending on the type of stone, the prescription might be to drink lemonade flavored Crystal Lite or real lemonade! The citrate helps to prevent some kinds of stones from forming.

Anyway, so we did make it out of town - finally arrived in Naples yesterday. DH had ended up in the hospital for a “procedure” to remove the stuck stone, then had to wait for the stent to be removed. Apparently we traveled on the only two days possible weather-wise so some power wasn’t looking when we snuck out of town. We got to experience severe thunderstorms last night, and today the high is only 60. But hey - we’re here!!

Hey…don’t ask for sympathy if you are in sunny beautiful Naples while we clowns are stuck up here in snow looking at ice dams forming on the roof!

glad your spouse’s pain episode is resolved and you made it!
