I think I've now heard the worst use of technology ever

<p>I do not turn my cell phone off in class, I do put it on vibrate. I have young children and for a time I did either turn the phone off or leave it in the car until class(es) was over. That stopped when their was an emergency with one of my sons at his school (1st grade) and it took my school over 2 hours to get the message to me. And even then it was second hand, an employee stopped me and asked me how was my son, I was like fine why all confused, they told me his school called me over 2 hours needing me for an emergency. My school is very small and I am in 1 class half the day. </p>

<p>I now always carry it on me but on vibrate and will answer it their school calls, I leave the room to answer.</p>

<p>About the only thing I can think of is if he had a wife who was about to go into labor. And in that case, he could have asked her to text message him and discreetly checked the text and excused himself.</p>
