I took a year off from high school. Does this affect my admission chances?

I am currently not enrolled in high school, but I will be for next school year. I went to high school for three straight years and obtained a 3.67 unweighted and 4.1 weighted GPA. I also received a 30 on the ACT.

Because of problems at home, I did not go to school at all for the 2012-2013 school year. But I am going back to school for the 2013-2014 school year (my senior year).

I want to go to UT Austin after I graduate, but I am afraid that because I did not go to school for a year, my application will be dismissed. Is this true?

P.S.
I plan to work my butt of senior year, taking advanced courses and getting all A’s like I used to.

Do you live in Texas? I’m not sure how ranking works if you’ve gone a year without school, but if you are in Texas and you are ranked in the top 8% (maybe 7%) then you can get into UT Austin.

I do live in Texas. Not sure where I rank. Do you mean top 8% of your class or in the state of Texas.

If you are in the top 8% of your class (though it might be 7% next year), then you are given automatic admission to UT Austin so long as you apply. Top 10% will give you automatic admission to any public university in Texas. However, like I said, I’m not sure how it works if you’ve taken a year off. Once you’re back in school, you should talk to your guidance counselor about it.
