I took the DNA test and found out that I am 30-35% Spanish which I did not know before. Now I feel cheated because I could have applied for all sorts of scholarships and would have qualified for money because I had Hispanic ancestors but did not know it. Instead I have all sorts of debt from student loans that will take me years and years to repay.
I believe that there are probably all sorts of people who qualified for Hispanic scholarships and if they took a DNA test would find out that they are not as Hispanic as they believed and have other ethnicities that would not have qualified for Hispanic scholarshps.
It is so unfair to people that are living in the U.S.A. but are treated unfairly soley because of their ancestry which they had no choice in while others that claim it are given all sorts of advantages and money. In addition, I don’t understand why any ethnic group should get advantages just because they happen to be in a group that someone decided they should be awarded for their heritage while others are not.
It is wrong.
Do you have a question?
Where are all these fantastic scholarships?
Your seriously deluded if you think a DNA test would have gotten you scholarship money. You probably have no ties to the Hispanic community which would be a major component in getting a scholarship. Not only that but financial need would have come into play here also.
Where did you get the idea that a DNA test gets you special treatment?
I’m Hispanic and Native American and actually have proof of that, given my ancestors’ documentation and my parents grandparents, etc.
Neither I, nor my siblings received scholarships for being Hispanic.
My children didn’t receive a dime of aid for being “URM”. This was also with being recognized by the NHRP and applying for the HSF scholarships. Nothing. My daughter did apply for a $100 stipend offered from HSF, they solicited her application, but they stated that they were mistaken, and actually DIDNT have $100 left to fund her.
Quit believing that you are entitled to something because some “test” told you that you are Hispanic. Do you practice the cultural mores of your newly discovered identity?
I’d also like to know where all of this money and scholarship windfall is. My kids could use the money.
