I took the SAT Once a Year in High-School, for a total of four times. Is this horrifically bad?

Yeah, my parents pretty much signed me up for an SAT at the beginning of each school year. I recently learned from one of my friends, however, that colleges strongly dis-advise taking the SAT more than three times, is this true? If so, is there anything I can do to sort of rectify my mistake?

My SAT scores had a strong upward trend if that helps:

My other ‘credentials’ are fairly good I think. I was looking at schools along the lines of W&L, Davidson, Hillsdale (is this school good?) maybe Duke or Yale if I could get in (although I don’t have high hopes)
Gpa: ~ 3.8 (AP classes this year should pull it up)
Extra things: National Merit Scholar, Yale Young Global Scholar, South-African internship, Congressional Intern, Hospital Volunteer, App Developing, only four AP classes, three of which are this senior year (will this hurt me?).
Homeschooled/Privateschooled.

AP Chemistry got a 3 and am extremely disappointed. Will having received a low grade on this impact my college acceptance?

I really appreciate some help. I’m afraid my dad is too optimistic about admissions

(I’ve only done one interview so far, at W&L, and I would guess that it went fairly well.)

Thanks.

They are fine. But you can just send your last two sittings for a high superscore using score choice. You don’t need to send all those previous sittings unless the college requires you to (a college such as Colgate or Yale)

Awesome, I didn’t know you could selectively send scores! Are there any drawbacks to doing so?

Also, if you don’t mind, what level, examples of schools would you recommend for my academic level?

No, unless the school doesn’t allow it. A school like Yale, like I mentioned, requires you to send all scores. http://professionals.collegeboard.com/profdownload/sat-score-use-practices-list.pdf</a>. The list is slightly old, but most of them should be accurate (check with the school though to be sure)

What type of schools are you interested in? Prospective major? Preferences? Location? Cost restrictions? Big vs small? LAC vs research? Apply to a wide variety of reach, match, and safety schools.

Location doesn’t particularly matter to me. In terms of cost, I’m sure I would need financial aid. I am interested in politics and medicine (which is one of the reasons I like W&L). Maybe <15000? Most of the schools I’ve looked at are less than 4,000, but I’m not necessarily concerned by size. Prospective major, Chemistry and Political science.

Would you say the schools I mentioned are reasonable, or a little too optimistic?

How many honors and AP courses have you taken/plan to take? What is typical of the top 10% or so at your school?

Also, Hillsdale is a very good school, but I believe even their own website trumpets them as a “bastion of conservatism,” and they put a strong emphasis on the Constitution. I’m not sure if you are liberal or conservative, but especially as a Poli Sci major it is something to consider (and depending on your viewpoint it may be a valuable learning experience no matter where on the political spectrum you identify).

Your ivies are definitely high reaches, but I recommend some other top schools (these will be reaches)- Northwestern, JHU, U of Chicago, and Cornell.

Butterfreesnd: I think I said above, I’m taking 4 APs total, unfortunately three of them are this year. I’ve been homeschooled/coop before last year as well.

What is your home state? If it is virginia, you can definitely check out uva and william and mary

No, It’s GA, so the only nearby ‘good’ school is Emory, which I know nothing about.

Emory is a FANTASTIC school. I would take a look if I were you.

I think its fine. There is nothing you can do about it. You show consistent improvement in your scores.

I’m a disgrace I have 3.8 GPA to but but horrible test scores 1290

TV, maybe you should try the ACT?
