Perhaps you can gather this from my posts on the board, but ‘quirky’ would not be an inappropriate was to describe me. As reading season progresses, and the files pile up, bits of my personality start to get magnified. You can imagine what spending 10 hours a day effectively on your own will do to you (go watch Cast Away and you’ll get an idea).

So! In high, though kooky, spirits, I’ve started this thread so we can get to know each other a little better. Let’s share our quirks and some of the simpler ways we find ourselves amused by life.

I’ll start…

I love Scrabble. I mean, I really love Scrabble. So much so that when I saw a stranger sitting in Starbucks last week with a board, I challenged her to a match. My housemates won’t play anymore with me, and I can think of nothing more exciting than sitting down to play with an English Lit major (past or present).

So Dan, don’t distract us from the antlers.

When I was at Tufts, I knew a guy who had a moose head (with antlers of course) on the wall of his dorm room. His mother came to visit and was appalled at the mess, so she tried to do a little cleaning. When she tried to dust the moose, a lot of moths flew out.

This is why it’s important not to appear overly tolerant on the roommate-matching questionnaires.

Whenever I’m in a musical, I always go over my music by myself in between rehearsals, and I’ll sing all the parts, as loud as I can: I also give each character a funny voice to remind myself when I am supposed to be singing.

Edit: Seashore, I think Dan was making a reference to his last thread title, which was a line not just from Macbeth, but from “The Mob Song” in Beauty and the Beast. The titles of both threads are lines sung by Gaston.

Scrabble can get a bit competitive in our house, but we don’t play that often. I’ll share that my D is obsessed with lighthouses and British pop culture.

My new favorite website (aside from facebook, of course) is [Pandora Radio - Listen to Free Internet Radio, Find New Music](http://www.pandora.com). The makers call it the music genome project; you select a favorite artist/song and a music player creates a “radio station” that plays similar sounding artists and songs.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I love the site because sometimes, I just want to listen to a certain kind of music. Also, I’m always searching for new artists because I love music, and pandora finds them for me!

I saw the title of this thread and instantly recognized it. It’s from the same song that taught me the word “expectorating.” And yes, if you pressed me, I could sing the entire song, end to end, plus the reprise.
If that’s not enough fun facts for you, my favorite Muppets are Statler and Waldorf. I also affectionately refer to the current pope as “Benny” and the former as “JP2.”

First off, this thread is a great idea!
What amuses me…
I love Guitar Hero. It is really addicting… Whenever I hear a song (especially one that is in the game), I find myself wiggling my fingers in excitement and occasionally busting out a full on air guitar.
I’m really ridiculously excited about Tufts and find myself checking this board and the facebook group’s page wayyyyy too often.
I am currently in the process of writing a book. I got inspired by NaNoWriMo (national novel writing month http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/whatisnano). The month it takes place in is november=college stress/senior year madness… so I didn’t finish on time but I’m working on it and loving it.

When I was 11, I was with my dad in Annapolis, Maryland, and I saw a lighthouse and commented on it. For the next three years, my birthday gift from my parents was lighthouse themed. I now own several light house models, thanks to the generosity of my parental units.

livelovelearn: cool, I’m writing a book too! My best friend and I have the whole thing planned out, we just have to finish writing it now. LOL. Too bad the ExCollege isn’t letting me teach an Explorations next year on reading and writing quality sci-fi/fantasy…(my partner didn’t meet the freakin GPA requirement. LAAAAME. I’ve been planning this since freshman year!)

I have a nervous habit of twirling my earrings when I don’t notice I’m doing it. I hate it when people move a pillow that I’m lying on. I have promised strangulation to my boyfriend when he removes it just to see how I’ll respond. The answer: immediate termination/evisceration of offender. Derek is no longer with us.

FALSE. I act amused by most things. And I like to make weird noises/faces when in groups of people who don’t know each other well. I like to say **** in Russian when I think it fits better, even though the people I’m talking to don’t speak it. I tell people I say things “ironically” until I say them just because I’m used to it (like “y’all”, “hilarrrr,” “obvi” and “natch.”)

we do have trader joe’s in the east and i agree, they are the best! i love experimenting with new fruits that ive never heard of before from there :D

I create ridiculously large cardboard electronic devices for my art studio’s annual art publication, FLIP magazine. Last year I made a giant orange iPod, and this year my friend and I made an orange Nintendo that we affectionately named “FLIPtendo”. :D
