I used 'minoring' in one of my essays. Problem?

Ok I hope I’m just overreacting here, but in one essay I used ‘minoring’, to signify what I wish to minor in. I just noticed that there’s no such word in dictionaries, though I think it’s quite obvious what it means due to its parts (minor, and -ing, signifying the gerund form). The phrase was “I’m interested in minoring in…”
What do you guys think? Are colleges really that strict when it comes to one word in the essays?

I don’t think it’ll be a problem. It’s common college language.
