I would like people to give more credit to Emma Willard School. It may not be as big as Exeter but I certainly think it is more beautiful. Founded in 1814, Emma Willard (the founder) was all for women and responsible power. She was obviously trying to educate women in a time where women were not allowed to go to college, many not able to recieve any education whatsoever, and could not get jobs. Emma Willard was on a mission to change that. Her hard work paid off and now the product is a beautiful school with many genereous and successful alumnae.
Founder Emma Willard was even friends with French hero Marquis de LaFayette. When he made his historic trip up the Hudson River to New York States capital in 1824, he called on esteemed educator Emma Hart Willard in Troy. Legend has it that he presented her with a bouquet of pink roses. The Marquis and Madame Willard went on to form a lasting friendship.

Emma has even had graduates such as Elizabeth Cady Stanton, a name found in almost every U.S. History Book. Elizabeth was a women’s rights activist and she opened many peoples eyes and showed people that women are capable of what men can do and even greater.
Emma also has alumni Jane Fonda. She is a two-time Academy Award-winning American actress, writer, political activist, former fashion model, and fitness guru. She starred in movies such as Monster in Law, Georgia Rule and many others.

Speaking of movies, Emma’s beautiful campus attracted directors and became the setting of movies such as The Emperor’s Club and Scent of a Woman.
Emma has also attracted the attention of presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, who made an address to the school about how she loves what the school is doing and it was feautured in Emma’s celebration 2007.

With small class sizes, amazing traditions, great community, plenty of sports, picturesque campus, state of the art facilities, successful alumnae, rich history, energetic and bright students, and it’s unique spirit, this school is a leader in single-sex education, as well as all private school education. Emma Willard School deserves attention as well, not just Exeter. thank you.
