i find myself a border applicant…And my parents are out of jobs however our income is 35k this year…So if i apply ED will they just deny me because I am border and cant pay??

Some general stats of mine

UW:4
W:4.75
COurse load:Full IB (junior and Senior w/1 ap)and including ap,dual college enrollment and honors in past.
ACT:31(will go up)

I have ecs but they are below average and 2-3 regional awards etc its not that bad just not amazing

I don’t think they will reject you because of your inability to pay, but what are you going to do if you get accepted, but don’t get enough fin aid?

If financing college is a problem, applying ED is usually a bad idea.

We were in this situation and still applied ED this year. My D got it, then the work began to get the necessary fin aid. Be sure you calculate your EFC to know what they “think” you should be able to pay. They should make up the difference.

I believe that if you get accepted ED and just couldn’t make the numbers work, they would understand and let you out of your ED contract.

depends on the school… often they gareentee you get enough finicial aid. Sometimes they don’t. It would be foolish to apply to a expensive school that you may or may not get enough AID for because applying early decision is a legal agreement so you have to pay regardless

Poskashflo…were they offering less that 40k financial aid?yah supposedly my parents should pay like 600 dollars.I want to apply ed even if their is a possiblity the FA is too low however I dont want to get rejected becausen I’m borderline and although they could accept me,they dont because of my ability to pay?(gotta love those run-on sentences)

ok well either way ed is a two way contract, you agree to go if accepted and they agree to make it financially possible for you to go. i spoke to admin. officers there regarding just that because they are quite expensive. however, they give 67 million in total aid per year, so it’s not like they are robbing students. on another note, they are not need blind, so if they decide that you are a good applicant, but too expensive for your potential benefit to the university they may reject you. if it makes you feel better they are unlikely going to reject you on your merit, your gpa both uw and w are well above their averages and you act is in their middle 50%. imo you shouldn’t have to worry about getting in.

They ended up putting a $20K package together for us. It was done very quickly via email with the Fin Aid office. We were even able to amend our original fin app to reflect lower income levels due to the economy, which they used to refactor the package.

This is the bottom line: If they accept you, they want you to go. They confirmed this again today when we attended a Fin Aid session at the Freshmen Orientation on campus. Tell them what you need, justify it and be honest. You may be surprised.

I agree with Poskashflo. My son was admitted ED and we got a very fair financial aid package. Maybe I’m naive, but I think if they decide they want you, they will work with you, even when you’re admitted ED. True, you have more leverage in a RD situation, but if you’re parents to willing to make a fair contribution to your education, I think you’ll see a similar good faith effort on the part of WUSTL even when you apply ED. I suggest you call the financial aid office and discuss your situation. I have found them to be responsive, honest and truly helpful.

Hey Poskashflo, that was quite the Convocation the other night! I hope your daughter’s move-in went smoothly.

i think you have better leverage in an ed situation because like i said ed goes two ways. they can’t make you come if they can’t make it affordable for you to go. “financial situation is the only way out of ed” is what an admin. officer told me, so don’t worry about paying. they are also very generous with scholarships, but if money is really an issue and you’re that qualified look into george washington and vanderbilt as some back ups, gw gave my friend 30k/year and he was less qualified than you, and wealthier, and vanderbilt gives out around 40 million more in aid/year than wustl and is still a great school
