I am a senior now and I took my first ACT test on October 14. The composite score is only 19. I have been living America for 4 years, but I got 15 and 16 on English and reading. I usually work hard at school, but my grammar is so bad. My math score is also lot’; I got 25. I usually get the highest score on my Calculus class, but I ran out of time on the ACT test. My goal is only to get a composite score of 25, so I don’t have to worry about the tuition fee of a local public university. I have registered for the December test, hope i will do better this time. Please give me some suggestion about how to raise score in a short time. Thank you.

buy a prep book, start to learning grammar rules / ACT math strategies / reading & science strategies

then practice practice practice

I have been living in the US 5 years and I got a 34 and 35 in english and reading, respectively.

The ACT is a test that measures what you have learned. Obviously, you didn’t make much of an effort to learn new things. However, I do suggest you buy the prep books that can teach you the rules that the ACT expects you to know.

Good luck!

Selter01, there are many factors that influence the ACT score. It is not correct to assume that the OP “didn’t make much effort” just because you have a higher score than him/her. Some people do well academically but not so much on tests. I know this because I am one of those people and I know that I definitely ‘make an effort.’ However, you do have some good advice right there!

practice tests should definitely help you with your timing…as for the english, I think that a prep book is probably as good as you’re going to get. I understand where you’re coming from, I have a friend from europe who has been living in the US for a while, and while she does fine orally, trick multiple-choice questions always trip her.

good luck!

Thank you all for helping me out. I will try my best to get a higher score.
