I want to go to large State school

<p>I’m a senior looking to go a large school and major in Advertising. </p>

<p>List of schools I will be applying to.</p>

<p>Michigan State University
Virginia Commonweath University
Washington State University
Louisiana State University
East Carolina University
University of Colorado - Boulder
Marquette University</p>

<p>I am from Hawaii
Ethnicities - African-American, Filipino, and Native American</p>

<ul>
<li><p>unweighted gpa - 3.0 (family was evicted sophmore year, long story)</p></li>
<li><p>SAT - 1820 </p></li>
<li><p>ACT - 26</p></li>
<li><p>EC’s three sport varsity athlete, active member of the business club, plays drums for school band, and a certificate art student</p></li>
</ul>

<p>What are my chances and what are some things that could raise my chances?
I’m no where near being an amazing student, but I am extremely intelligent but my grades don’t reflect that. </p>

<p>Just looking for some advice :)</p>

<p>Can you afford to go to an out-of-state public?</p>

<p>Well, not to be all about ethnicities, but being three different races definitely helps you as schools are trying to become more and more diverse. You’re GPA is a little low but thats ok because you’re sat and act scores aren’t bad. If you firmly believe your grades don’t reflect how smart you really are, then definitely take the sat and/or act again in the fall. My advice would be to take both and see which ones score is better to apply with. If both of them increase, submit both. You will be very comfortable applying with those scores, but if you get maybe a high 1800 or a 27/28, then you should be a lock.Continue to be involved and try to take a couple honors or an ap class senior year to show the schools you are challenging yourself. Would be surprised if you do not get into most of these schools, if not all.
Also, family getting evicted sophomore year can turn out to be a really good essay topic</p>

<p>Can u afford OOS tuition at these schools? Public schools usually don’t give FA to non-state residents. And u mention u are not a strong student, so merit aid doesn’t seem likely. </p>

<p>My family can afford tuition now, and I will definitely be working to help pay while I’m in school.
What are some other similar schools you guys think I might have a shot at? </p>
