I want to have a web site. What do you recommend?

<p>Have others discovered a simple and free way to put up a web site? I want to have a blog, put up links, and have the ability for people to leave comments.</p>

<p>Last year I used iWeb to build a small web site. There is one step to building custom web pages that is not intuitive (although simple once someone shows you). I’ve since forgotten this step so, if I want to use iWeb again I will have to figure who will show me (I had One to One tutoring from Apple when I bought the Mac, but that has since expired and it is only for new owners.)</p>

<p>Also using iWeb would require that I renew MobileMe online storage, which is $100 a year.</p>

<p>I second blogger.com. I have several blogger blogs for different things. Fast and easy. Tutorials available with simple google search.</p>

<p>Just curious about your reasons for blogging, fendrock and AMom. Aside from promoting one’s business or scoring free merchandise by touting a line of products, what are other reasons that one would blog? (Showing my age with this question, I know.)</p>

<p>My first web site is something I did for myself, kind of an exercise to see if I could do it. I was researching an issue based on a book I had read, so I created a web site with related articles, a book review, associated clips from YouTube and so forth. (I’d love to give you the link but since I haven’t paid my MobileMe subscription it is down now!)</p>

<p>Now I am embarking on another research project which is in association with the high school I attended. I want to put together a web site to see if I can generate discussion on the topic. I’m hoping I’ll garner enough interest so that we can eventually have a reunion event that discusses these subjects of mutual interest instead of being only a social gathering.</p>

<p>I guess the best reason, worrywart, is because it’s fun? </p>

<p>I’m not promoting any merchandise, my first one was for a module I took (I got an MA in Digital Media last year) , and I did it in Dreamweaver, and since then I’ve done several on different subjects that I am interested in. I set the settings so they are not available on public search engines, I give the URL to family members, etc. so they can see them.</p>

<p>An actual website requires a hosting company and a domain name that you buy (well, really rent because you have to keep paying for it). There are dozens of these companies - and the most notorious advertiser is GoDaddy.com - and almost all offer along with domain name registration and tracking some form of basic website setup assistance, templates, etc.</p>

<p>But it sounds like you want a blog and for that, as noted, Google’s blogger is fine.</p>
