I want to just work and live. Should I?

So, a little about myself. I’m 19, currently in community college and don’t like it. I want to just get a job and leave and live by myself.

I kinda hate college. I don’t like the system. I gotgot accepted into UCs and SCUs but rejected them because I wanted to join the Air Force (already at the end if HS I didn’t want to go college). Talked to family decided not to and went to community college instead.

Now that I spent some time here I’m much surer that I won’t like college/University. I’m not shy. I’m social, got friends, do things alone or with people.

My problem is not that I feel like an outcast (the threads I read about this rooted their problems on them being shy). My problem is that I just don’t give a ‘f’. I really don’t care about anything. Almost every day I just wake up, do things and go to sleep. I honestly don’t care for things. Dead or alive, rich or poor, social or loner, etc… It’s all the same to me. That’s why I just want to get a job and live.
I did a bit of research and I want to work as an EMT, and eventually as a paramedic. Live by myself or with a roommate and just live.

So, should I just do it?

Yes, see if you can get a job you are comfortable with.

It’s your life so do what makes you happy. If that means not attending college and just getting a job then go for it.

Do what makes you happy. You say some things that sound a bit of depression. You might want to be sure you don’t give an f about school only, not life in general, ok?

There is nothing wrong with your idea. Go for it!

The Air Force could still be an option too, and you could get emergency medical training through the military if you qualify. After military service you would have the Post 9/11 GI Bill and could finance an education should you change your mind.

Honestly, you sound like you are suffering from depression. Seriously, if I were you, I would go and get screened and see what’s up, because if that is your problem, then you aren’t going to fix it by leaving school and getting a job.

I don’t think OP sounds depressed. For instance, OP has a specific goal in mind - being an EMT and paramedic. (My question is, you don’t need schooling for that, not even a certificate from somewhere? Do find out NOW what you need to do to reach this career goal and get started on it…)

It sounds like OP just doesn’t care for academia and is sick of being in school. It’s not for everyone.

Many, many people feel the same. Nothing wrong with that. Being an EMT and/or paramedic is a fine goal to have.

Go for it! Best of luck to you in whatever you do.

I agree with looking into depression.

Do some research to find out what kind of formal training you will need to work as an EMT or paramedic. That may life your spirits. And maybe seek some counseling as well. Good luck!

I agree with the poster who said you may have a problem with depression, based on the way you are describing things. There are counselors and psychologists who work with people in establishing career and life goals. I would urge you to seek one out and seek advice.

With that said, there is absolutely nothing wrong with just going to work. A lot of people never get a real payoff from their college education. After you work a couple of years you might want to go to college or you might not. I have a lot of friends who attended college for a semester or three and quit. They have happy and successful lives.

American society: person doesn’t want to attend college = depression.

Check that out, as you never know, it could be a factor. But exploring your options outside of college is a fine idea. You never know, you could find something quite appealing that you could be quite happy doing. Good luck!

Actually, CC posters: “Almost every day I just wake up, do things and go to sleep. I honestly don’t care for things. Dead or alive, rich or poor, social or loner, etc… It’s all the same to me” = Depression
