I want to meet cute guys AND get a good education, which college is right for me?

Hi, my name is Jade Li, and I’ve been told I’m pretty cute. The only problem is that I’m going to college soon, but don’t know where. I’m definitely going to the UC system, my parents aren’t going to waste money on an out of state school or a private, so I guess I’ll have to stick here.

My only concern is that the two colleges that I’m thinking as my #1 choice are UCLA and UCB, and I’ve heard the guys there are ugly, awkward, etc. As if there are no cute guys there at all! Am I going to be stuck with lame losers? BTW, I only date Asians (well, mostly) so I’d love a school with a large Asian cute population. Thanks.

It’s ridiculous to think that there will be NO attractive asian guys on campus.

UCB is 47% Asian. Assuming that’s made up of an equal number of males and females, UCB is 25% Asian male. A 25% segment of a school’s population (esp. with a total population of 23,000+ students) can’t ALL be bad-looking.

UCLA is 41% Asian. Overall its 60% female, 40% male. So guesstimating a 15% Asian male population out of the total UCLA population of 24,000+…you should be fine, Jade Li. Just watch out for the ****load of competition :D

Basically, if you are rich & pretty, go to Berkeley :).

An added bonus is that your offspring might be able to claim the “Double Legacy” status when it’s time for him/her to apply for Berkeley. ;)

CC now has “rankings” for such factors.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/visits/college_rank_summary.html

Don’t you guys know that there is a sperm bank here in the Philippines (and I also know that there are the same banks in Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan) that sells sperms of students and young alumni of USA’s top 3 schools: UC Berkeley, MIT and Harvard. Hehehe… strange but true.

double post

Wow this is superficial. That’s all I have to say.

Whatever, at least she’s up front about it

MABUHAY, that reminds me of a Chronicle article about how much people are willing to pay for Duke eggs.

The correct response from an Asian guy to this thread (sadly I am not Asian) is: “The right school for you is whatever school I’m at baby.” Or some better-written sleazier derivation of that.

If I were your parent I would strongly consider community college.

Actually, I believe UCB is 41% Asian. Maybe you are thinking of UCI? (then again, UCI might have an even larger percentage of Asians)

First of all, if that is your real name, I would reconsider revealing it on a large, online public forum, just for your privacy’s sake. You never know who comes on here.

Onto your concern…I’ll tell you that at both UCB and UCLA they have their good share of awkward, plain-looking Asian guys. I think it’s worse at UCSD actually (no offense, this is all just from limited personal experience). But there are also some pretty good-looking Asian guys, although I think they are in the minority. I’ve seen quite a few Asian guys in relationships though, with some pretty good-looking girls too, so they must be doing something right.

But I think that’s just the general trend. No matter where you go, which race you are talking about, good-looking people will be in the minority. That’s just relativity at work. If the majority of a population are good-looking, they wouldn’t really be considered good-looking but rather, average-looking. And since colleges admit based on academic and extracurricular merit and not physical attraction, the range of objective beauty is similar to that of society at large. I think what we can agree on is that at large public schools with large Asian populations like UCLA or UCB, you’ll find pretty much every type of Asian guys there is to fit your needs.

Anyway, I don’t think it’s something you should worry about too much. If you’re good enough to get a cute guy, you will whether the school is 30% Asian or 70% Asian, whether the Asian population is 10% “lame loser” or 50% “lame losers.” I love these “which college has the most hot girls/guys” threads because the OP always seems to think that if the number of cute members of the opposite sex rises that means his/her chance of hooking up with one of them rises, when logic tells us that isn’t the case.

Oh, I don’t know. I think physical attraction matters to just about everyone, just some more than others. And that’s natural. You can relate it to a college’s campus. A student would prefer a beautiful college campus because when they walk around during the day, the environment is appealing and inspiring. In the same way, we have a tendency to be surrounded by beautiful people. Who wants to go to a school that’s filled with diseased and obese people? I don’t see people saying liking a college for its campus architecture is superficial, so I think wanting to attend a college with good-looking people has some valid grounding as well. Now if we were to say that the OP is choosing to date someone just because of physical appearance, then yeah, maybe that’s a bit superficial. But that’s a different situation altogether.

Save your money and go to cosmetology school.

The University of Tourguide.
